Wingman Metrics
You walk into Timbermine and the rustic log-cabin atmosphere immediately sets expectations — this is a place for prime rib and a glass of something red and uncomplicated. The wine list follows the room's lead: approachable, familiar, not trying to impress anyone with obscure producers. For Ogden, Utah, that's a reasonable bet.
The list sits somewhere in the 20-40 bottle range with a heavy lean on California and a nod toward the Pacific Northwest — think Napa Cabernet, Meiomi Pinot Noir, and Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay. These are recognizable names that work for a special-occasion crowd who aren't necessarily wine-obsessed. There's no depth here — no old-world surprises, no grower Champagne, no interesting outliers — but the producers are reliable enough that you won't be stuck with something actively bad. The gaps are real, though: if you want anything outside the California-Pacific Northwest corridor, you're out of luck.
Six to ten pours by the glass, which is a respectable count for a steakhouse of this size. Expect the BTG list to mirror the bottle list — Meiomi, K-J Chardonnay, probably a house Cabernet. Rotation appears minimal; this reads as a set-and-forget program rather than something that gets refreshed with intention.
Meiomi Pinot Noir — null
Among the options available, Meiomi is the crowd-pleaser that actually delivers what it promises — ripe fruit, soft tannins, and enough body to handle the kitchen's heavier cuts. Not exciting, but reliably solid for the setting.
Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Depending on which Napa Cab they're pouring, this is worth asking about specifically — a well-sourced Napa Cabernet against a filet mignon in a candlelit log cabin is exactly the kind of experience Timbermine is built for. Ask your server which producer it is before committing.
Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay
KJ Chardonnay is a grocery-store staple that retails around $15. At steakhouse markups you're paying two to three times that for something you could grab at a gas station on the way in. Pass.
Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon + Prime Rib
A classic for a reason — the structure and dark fruit of a Napa Cab cuts through the fat on a slow-roasted prime rib, and the rustic setting makes the whole thing feel earned. If there's one thing to do right at Timbermine, this is it.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Timbermine earns its reputation as a reliable Ogden institution on the strength of its food and atmosphere — the wine list is just along for the ride. Come for the prime rib, order something red and Californian, and don't overthink it.
South Ogden · Ogden · Mexican / Cantina
Cactus Grill is a solid spot for tacos, enchiladas, and a well-made margarita — the wine list is just along for the ride. If wine matters to you tonight, order the Cooper & Thief and move on; if it really matters to you, come back another night.

South Ogden / Riverdale Road Corridor · Ogden · Steakhouse
Ruby River's wine list is a utility player — it shows up, does what's needed for a steak dinner, and goes home. We wouldn't make the drive for the wine, but if you're already there for the prime rib, the Chateau Ste. Michelle will take care of you.

Downtown Ogden · Ogden · Fine Dining American/European-Influenced
If you think Utah wine is a punchline, this place is the correction — it's a small, serious list built around a real winemaking operation, and the value holds up. Send a curious friend here; tell them to order the La Crescent and not ask too many questions.

Mercantile isn't here to impress wine nerds, and it doesn't try to. What it offers is a genuinely low-stakes, fairly priced place to drink decent West Coast wines with a cheese board in hand — and in Ogden, that's worth something.

Ogden Beer Company is a genuinely fun riverfront spot — just order a Cougar Juice wheat and call it a day. The wine list exists, technically, but it's not trying to impress anyone and you shouldn't let it impress you.

City Club Ogden is a bar first, a nightclub second, and a wine destination never. The $4 pours are honestly fine for what this place is — but if wine matters to you even a little, drink the cocktails.

Champaign · Champaign · Steakhouse
LongHorn Champaign has a wine list that exists so you can say you had wine with dinner — not much more than that. If you're here for the steak, grab the J. Lohr and move on; if you came for the wine list, recalibrate your evening immediately.

Texas Roadhouse is a perfectly good place to eat a steak and destroy a basket of rolls — just do yourself a favor and drink a beer or a bourbon instead. The wine list is grocery-store inventory at chain-restaurant markups, and no amount of country music can dress that up.

Outback's wine program is a corporate afterthought dressed up in Australian branding, and Champaign is no exception. Order the Mollydooker if you must drink wine, but honestly, the cocktail menu will treat you better.
