The wine list at Halls Chophouse reads exactly like you'd expect from a high-end chophouse in the South — familiar names, safe bets, and prices that remind you this is a special occasion spot. At 72 labels, it's a respectable size without being overwhelming, but don't come in here hunting for discovery.
The whites lean heavily domestic, anchored by a cluster of California producers — Cakebread, Stag's Leap, Far Niente's Post & Beam, and Brewer-Clifton's Diatom — alongside a few token international entries like the Benito Santos Albariño and Willm Gewurztraminer. There's a solid nod to Italy with the Girlan Chardonnay and Masi Masianco, and the Pala Milleluchi Nugarus from Sardinia is the most interesting thing on the white side of the menu. Pala Milleluchi Nugarus 2023
A Sardinian white from one of the island's most consistent producers at $45 — most tables here will walk right past it for a Cakebread. That's a mistake. Nugarus is built on Vermentino and brings texture and salinity that actually holds up to red meat better than most whites on this list.
Robert Mondavi Fumé Blanc 2021
Ninety dollars for a Mondavi Fumé Blanc is a hard ask when the Stag's Leap Artemis Sauvignon Blanc sits at the same price and the Terrunyo is only five dollars more. Mondavi makes fine wine, but not $90 fine — this one is coasting on name recognition.
Raventos Blanc de Blanc 2022 + Bone-in Ribeye
Counterintuitive, but hear us out — the Raventos at $55 is a grower Cava with real acidity and fine bubbles that cut through the fat of a big ribeye better than most reds on this list. It's also a conversation starter, which earns you points at a chophouse.
The Bottom Line
Halls Chophouse delivers what Greenville diners expect from a serious steakhouse: familiar labels, celebration-ready bottles, and prices that reflect the room. We'd love to see more adventurous pours and a real by-the-glass program, but for what it is, the list does its job without embarrassing anyone.
