Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Ruby River reads exactly like the room looks — Western-themed, meat-forward, and not trying to surprise anyone. You get a tight roster of California and Washington State names you already know, which is fine when the goal is a ribeye and a big red, not a discovery session. It does the job, and that job is narrowly defined.
The list runs 20-35 bottles and leans almost exclusively on California and Washington State, which makes sense for a steakhouse but leaves zero room to roam. Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon is the clear headliner, Chateau Ste. Michelle represents Washington, and Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay handles the white wine duty for the table that always orders Chardonnay. There's no Pinot Noir worth talking about, no Old World presence, and no sense that anyone rethought this list recently. If you came for the beef, the wine will work — just don't expect it to lead the conversation.
Eight to twelve pours by the glass is a reasonable count for a steakhouse of this size, and the options track predictably with the bottle list — Cabernet Sauvignon does the heavy lifting, with a token white or two rounding things out. There's no evidence of regular rotation or a serious glass program, so what you see is what you get, probably all year. It's functional, not inspiring.
Chateau Ste. Michelle Cabernet Sauvignon — $38
Washington State Cab at a steakhouse is underrated — Ste. Michelle reliably over-delivers for the price point, and it holds its own against a prime rib without demanding you spend big.
Chateau Ste. Michelle Cabernet Sauvignon
Everyone reaches for the Stag's Leap on a list like this, but the Ste. Michelle is the quieter pick — Washington tannins hit differently with red meat, and the price gap is real.
Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay
You can buy this bottle at any grocery store in Utah for around $15. Whatever they're charging here, the math doesn't work in your favor. Order the Cab.
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon + Ribeye steak
Classic move, but it works — Stag's Leap brings enough dark fruit and structure to stand up to a well-marbled ribeye without overwhelming it. Sometimes the obvious call is obvious for a reason.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Ruby River's wine list is a utility player — it shows up, does what's needed for a steak dinner, and goes home. We wouldn't make the drive for the wine, but if you're already there for the prime rib, the Chateau Ste. Michelle will take care of you.
South Ogden · Ogden · Mexican / Cantina
Cactus Grill is a solid spot for tacos, enchiladas, and a well-made margarita — the wine list is just along for the ride. If wine matters to you tonight, order the Cooper & Thief and move on; if it really matters to you, come back another night.

Timbermine earns its reputation as a reliable Ogden institution on the strength of its food and atmosphere — the wine list is just along for the ride. Come for the prime rib, order something red and Californian, and don't overthink it.

If you think Utah wine is a punchline, this place is the correction — it's a small, serious list built around a real winemaking operation, and the value holds up. Send a curious friend here; tell them to order the La Crescent and not ask too many questions.

Mercantile isn't here to impress wine nerds, and it doesn't try to. What it offers is a genuinely low-stakes, fairly priced place to drink decent West Coast wines with a cheese board in hand — and in Ogden, that's worth something.

Ogden Beer Company is a genuinely fun riverfront spot — just order a Cougar Juice wheat and call it a day. The wine list exists, technically, but it's not trying to impress anyone and you shouldn't let it impress you.

City Club Ogden is a bar first, a nightclub second, and a wine destination never. The $4 pours are honestly fine for what this place is — but if wine matters to you even a little, drink the cocktails.

LongHorn Champaign has a wine list that exists so you can say you had wine with dinner — not much more than that. If you're here for the steak, grab the J. Lohr and move on; if you came for the wine list, recalibrate your evening immediately.

Texas Roadhouse is a perfectly good place to eat a steak and destroy a basket of rolls — just do yourself a favor and drink a beer or a bourbon instead. The wine list is grocery-store inventory at chain-restaurant markups, and no amount of country music can dress that up.

Outback's wine program is a corporate afterthought dressed up in Australian branding, and Champaign is no exception. Order the Mollydooker if you must drink wine, but honestly, the cocktail menu will treat you better.
