Wingman Metrics
When you see 'Purple Sky Estate Frontenac Gris, Honeyville, UT' on a wine list, you either lean in or you don't β and we very much lean in. This is a winery restaurant first and a bistro second, which means the list is tight, intentional, and almost entirely house-poured. Thirteen labels, all by the glass, no bottle-only upsell game β that's a clear statement of purpose.
The list is short enough to read in under a minute, but it earns its keep. Purple Sky leans on Washington State for its bigger reds β a Reserve Syrah and Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon both from Walla Walla 2022 β while sourcing Rattlesnake Hills fruit for the Riesling and Chardonnay. The genuine wildcard is the Utah estate work: Frontenac Gris and La Crescent are cold-hardy hybrid varieties that almost nobody is pouring in a restaurant context, and the fact that this list includes both is either brave or a little eccentric, possibly both. Gaps exist β no Pinot Noir, no Italian, no Old World representation beyond a token Graham's Port at the finish β but this isn't trying to be a global wine list, it's trying to be a focused showcase, and on those terms it works.
Everything on the list is available by the glass, which is the right call for a 13-label program. Prices run $8 to $19, with the Woodhouse Sweet Riesling anchoring the low end and the Walla Walla Syrah topping out at $19 β accessible range with no painful outliers. The Blanc De Blanc sparkling and the RosΓ© Sparkling give you a proper celebratory opening move before you dig into the rest.
Purple Sky Winery Reserve Syrah, Walla Walla 2022 β $19
Walla Walla Syrah at $19 a glass is genuinely solid value β this appellation punches well above what you'd expect at this price, and the 2022 vintage gave Washington some serious fruit concentration to work with.
Purple Sky Estate La Crescent, Honeyville, UT 2025
La Crescent is a University of Minnesota cold-climate hybrid that barely exists outside of the upper Midwest and experimental wine programs β finding it estate-grown in Utah and poured in a restaurant is genuinely rare. Skip it and you've missed the most interesting thing on the list.
Coldblooded Green Mantis Sauvignon Blanc, Dunnigan Hills, CA 2025
Dunnigan Hills Sauvignon Blanc is a fine enough category, but it's the one wine here that feels like a gap-filler rather than a deliberate pick β surrounded by estate Utah oddities and Walla Walla heavyweights, it just doesn't belong in the conversation.
Coldblooded Woodhouse Sweet Riesling, Rattlesnake Hills, WA 2025 + Chef's cheese board
A sweet Riesling with residual sugar and bright acidity is the textbook move against a salty, funky cheese selection β the wine's fruit cuts through the richness and the sweetness plays off aged or blue-style cheeses without overwhelming anything.
π² The Bottom Line
If you think Utah wine is a punchline, this place is the correction β it's a small, serious list built around a real winemaking operation, and the value holds up. Send a curious friend here; tell them to order the La Crescent and not ask too many questions.
South Ogden Β· Ogden Β· Mexican / Cantina
Cactus Grill is a solid spot for tacos, enchiladas, and a well-made margarita β the wine list is just along for the ride. If wine matters to you tonight, order the Cooper & Thief and move on; if it really matters to you, come back another night.

Timbermine earns its reputation as a reliable Ogden institution on the strength of its food and atmosphere β the wine list is just along for the ride. Come for the prime rib, order something red and Californian, and don't overthink it.

Ruby River's wine list is a utility player β it shows up, does what's needed for a steak dinner, and goes home. We wouldn't make the drive for the wine, but if you're already there for the prime rib, the Chateau Ste. Michelle will take care of you.

Mercantile isn't here to impress wine nerds, and it doesn't try to. What it offers is a genuinely low-stakes, fairly priced place to drink decent West Coast wines with a cheese board in hand β and in Ogden, that's worth something.

Ogden Beer Company is a genuinely fun riverfront spot β just order a Cougar Juice wheat and call it a day. The wine list exists, technically, but it's not trying to impress anyone and you shouldn't let it impress you.

City Club Ogden is a bar first, a nightclub second, and a wine destination never. The $4 pours are honestly fine for what this place is β but if wine matters to you even a little, drink the cocktails.
