What this covers
This policy describes how Raging Wine (“we,” “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use ragingwine.com and the Raging Wine mobile app (the “Service”).
Information we collect
- Account information. Email address, display name, and (optionally) a profile photo. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and avatar from Google.
- Content you create. Check-ins, visits, wine logs, ratings, notes, comments, reader reviews, and photos you scan (wine lists and bottle labels).
- Location. With your permission, the mobile app uses your device location to find nearby restaurants for check-ins. We store the restaurant you chose and, for some features, the coordinates you submitted. You can use most of the Service without granting location access.
- Usage and device data. Standard logs (IP address, request times, pages viewed) used for security, rate limiting, and debugging; device tokens if you enable push notifications.
How we use it
- Provide the Service: scans, recommendations, check-ins, journals, social features.
- AI processing. Photos you scan are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to read the wine list or label and generate recommendations. Scanned images are processed to extract wine data; extracted wines and prices become part of our restaurant wine database.
- Personalize recommendations using your liked wines and taste profile.
- Moderate content, enforce our terms, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations.
- Send service emails and, if you subscribe, our newsletter (unsubscribe anytime).
What we share
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing or advertising. Your data is used to run Raging Wine — nothing else. The only parties that touch it are:
- Service providers that run our infrastructure: Supabase (database and authentication), Vercel (hosting), Anthropic (AI processing of scans and chat), Google (sign-in, Maps/Places for restaurant lookup), and our newsletter and analytics providers. They process data only to provide their services to us.
- Other users, for content you choose to share: your display name, avatar, comments, and social activity (check-ins, badges, follows) visible in community features.
- Authorities, if required by law or to protect the Service and its users.
Aggregated, de-identified wine-market data (for example, average bottle pricing across restaurants) may be used in our editorial work and commercial products; it never identifies you.
The mobile app specifically
- Camera and photo library are used only when you scan a wine list or bottle label, or set a profile photo. Images are uploaded to process your scan; we don’t access your library beyond what you select.
- Location is requested only for finding nearby restaurants when you check in. The app works without it.
- Push notifications are optional; declining changes nothing else.
- No cross-app tracking. The app does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites and does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA).
- Account deletion is built in: Profile → Delete Account removes your account and data as described below.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account in the mobile app (Profile → Delete Account) or by emailing us. This permanently deletes your profile, check-ins, scans, logs, comments, reviews, and photos. Moderation records are retained in anonymized form.
- Edit your profile (display name, photo) in the app at any time.
- Revoke location and camera permissions in your device settings.
- Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information. Email hello@ragingwine.com and we will honor verified requests.
Data retention and security
We keep your data while your account is active. Server logs and backups age out on rolling schedules. Data is encrypted in transit, access to production systems is restricted, and authentication is handled by Supabase. No system is perfectly secure — report concerns to hello@ragingwine.com.
Children
The Service is for adults of legal drinking age and is not directed to anyone under 21. We do not knowingly collect data from minors; if we learn we have, we delete it.
Changes and contact
We will post any material changes here with a new effective date. Questions or requests: hello@ragingwine.com.
