Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Cactus Grill & Cantina is exactly what you'd expect from a festive neighborhood cantina — nine bottles deep, all names you've seen at Costco, nothing that requires a second look. It reads less like a curated selection and more like someone checked a box. The margarita menu gets all the love here, and honestly, that's probably the right call.
Nine bottles, all big commercial brands: Kendall-Jackson pulling double duty in Chardonnay, Cab, and Merlot; Dark Horse covering budget Chardonnay and Cab; and a lone Mezzacorona Pinot Grigio representing Italy in the most perfunctory way possible. The most interesting bottle on the list — and we use 'interesting' loosely — is the Cooper & Thief Red Blend, a bourbon-barrel-aged California red that at least tries something different. Korbel Brut rounds things out as the sparkling option, which is fine for a toast but not much else. There are no regional discoveries here, no small producers, no reason a wine-curious diner would choose this list over the cocktail menu.
Eight pours split evenly between four whites and four reds, which sounds generous until you realize it's essentially the entire bottle list. Glass pricing isn't published online, so you're walking in blind — always a minor frustration. The rotation is static; don't expect anything seasonal or surprising to show up.
Dark Horse Cabernet Sauvignon — $32
Dark Horse is an honest, approachable Cab that retails around $10-12 — at the low end of their bottle range, it's the least painful way to share a bottle over a big plate of nachos without overthinking it.
Cooper & Thief Red Blend Bourbon Barrel
It's the only bottle on the list that shows any personality. Bourbon-barrel aging adds a touch of sweetness and warmth that actually plays well with smoky, spiced Mexican flavors — most people will walk right past it for the Kendall-Jackson, and they shouldn't.
Korbel Brut
At $40 a bottle, you're paying a premium for a California sparkling wine that retails for around $12. It's not a terrible drink, but the markup-to-quality ratio here is the worst on the list — save that money for an extra round of margs.
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc + Fajitas
Kim Crawford's bright citrus and grassy zip cut through the char and fat of sizzling fajitas better than anything else on this list — it's high-acid, light, and refreshing enough to keep pace with a smoky, saucy plate.
❌ The Bottom Line
Cactus Grill is a solid spot for tacos, enchiladas, and a well-made margarita — the wine list is just along for the ride. If wine matters to you tonight, order the Cooper & Thief and move on; if it really matters to you, come back another night.
Ogden Canyon Base / East Ogden · Ogden · Steakhouse
Timbermine earns its reputation as a reliable Ogden institution on the strength of its food and atmosphere — the wine list is just along for the ride. Come for the prime rib, order something red and Californian, and don't overthink it.

South Ogden / Riverdale Road Corridor · Ogden · Steakhouse
Ruby River's wine list is a utility player — it shows up, does what's needed for a steak dinner, and goes home. We wouldn't make the drive for the wine, but if you're already there for the prime rib, the Chateau Ste. Michelle will take care of you.

Downtown Ogden · Ogden · Fine Dining American/European-Influenced
If you think Utah wine is a punchline, this place is the correction — it's a small, serious list built around a real winemaking operation, and the value holds up. Send a curious friend here; tell them to order the La Crescent and not ask too many questions.

Grant Avenue · Ogden · Wine Bar / Cheese Bar
Mercantile isn't here to impress wine nerds, and it doesn't try to. What it offers is a genuinely low-stakes, fairly priced place to drink decent West Coast wines with a cheese board in hand — and in Ogden, that's worth something.

Ogden Beer Company is a genuinely fun riverfront spot — just order a Cougar Juice wheat and call it a day. The wine list exists, technically, but it's not trying to impress anyone and you shouldn't let it impress you.

City Club Ogden is a bar first, a nightclub second, and a wine destination never. The $4 pours are honestly fine for what this place is — but if wine matters to you even a little, drink the cocktails.
