Wingman Metrics
The list is short — eleven wines total — and it reads like someone curated it with a casual drinker firmly in mind. No deep-cuts Burgundy, no obscure Georgian amber, but also no nonsense. It's a neighborhood wine-and-cheese bar that knows its lane and stays in it.
The entire list leans West Coast, with California and Washington doing most of the heavy lifting and Oregon sneaking in via A to Z Pinot Gris. You'll recognize almost every producer: Chateau Ste. Michelle, J Lohr, Fetzer, Angeline — these are accessible, widely distributed names that keep things comfortable and low-risk. There's no Burgundy, no Italian, no Spanish presence to speak of, so adventurous drinkers will hit a ceiling fast. That said, the inclusion of Waterbrook's Sangiovese Rosé is a small, welcome left turn in an otherwise straight-ahead lineup.
All eleven bottles pour by the glass, which means the entire list is yours at $7–$9 a pop — a genuinely generous policy for a spot in this price bracket. Rotation doesn't appear to be much of a thing here; this feels like a stable, set list rather than something that shifts seasonally. At these prices, the floor for entry is low enough that exploring the whole menu over a few visits is actually a viable strategy.
A to Z Pinot Gris — $7/glass, $25/bottle
A to Z consistently punches above its price point in Oregon Pinot Gris, and at $7 a glass it's the easiest yes on this list — crisp, food-friendly, and made for a cheese board.
Waterbrook Sangiovese Rosé
Most people will default to the Pinot Noir or Chardonnay and never look back, but this Washington State Sangiovese Rosé from Waterbrook is the most interesting wine on the menu — drier and more structured than the typical pink, and genuinely interesting next to a salty charcuterie spread.
Dark Horse Buttery Chardonnay
Dark Horse is a $7 grocery store bottle, and while $24 on a restaurant list isn't outrageous, the wine itself is aggressively oaked, heavily processed, and not doing anyone any favors. The Chateau Ste. Michelle Chardonnay next to it is a meaningfully better wine for just a few dollars more.
Waterbrook Sangiovese Rosé + Cheese board
The Sangiovese Rosé's acidity and subtle savory edge cut right through fatty aged cheeses without fighting them — it's the kind of pairing that makes a simple board feel like a considered choice.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Mercantile isn't here to impress wine nerds, and it doesn't try to. What it offers is a genuinely low-stakes, fairly priced place to drink decent West Coast wines with a cheese board in hand — and in Ogden, that's worth something.
South Ogden · Ogden · Mexican / Cantina
Cactus Grill is a solid spot for tacos, enchiladas, and a well-made margarita — the wine list is just along for the ride. If wine matters to you tonight, order the Cooper & Thief and move on; if it really matters to you, come back another night.

Timbermine earns its reputation as a reliable Ogden institution on the strength of its food and atmosphere — the wine list is just along for the ride. Come for the prime rib, order something red and Californian, and don't overthink it.

Ruby River's wine list is a utility player — it shows up, does what's needed for a steak dinner, and goes home. We wouldn't make the drive for the wine, but if you're already there for the prime rib, the Chateau Ste. Michelle will take care of you.

If you think Utah wine is a punchline, this place is the correction — it's a small, serious list built around a real winemaking operation, and the value holds up. Send a curious friend here; tell them to order the La Crescent and not ask too many questions.

Ogden Beer Company is a genuinely fun riverfront spot — just order a Cougar Juice wheat and call it a day. The wine list exists, technically, but it's not trying to impress anyone and you shouldn't let it impress you.

City Club Ogden is a bar first, a nightclub second, and a wine destination never. The $4 pours are honestly fine for what this place is — but if wine matters to you even a little, drink the cocktails.
