The wine list at Mustard Seed Helena is short, California-focused, and makes no apologies for it. You're not going to find a grower Champagne or a funky Jura Chardonnay hiding in here — but you will find a list that knows its audience and mostly delivers. For a pan-Asian spot in Helena, Montana, that's a reasonable win.
The list runs about 20-30 bottles deep with heavy emphasis on California — Napa, Sonoma, Russian River Valley, Mendocino, and Paso Robles doing most of the heavy lifting, with a nod to Mendoza rounding things out. Navarro is a Mendocino standout that punches well above its price point — cool-climate fruit, solid acid, and none of the butter-bomb nonsense that makes California Chard a bad word at the dinner table. At this price range, it's the move.
Schramsberg Mirabelle Brut Sparkling
Most people walk past bubbles on a wine list at an Asian fusion spot and go straight for the Pinot. That's a mistake here. Schramsberg's Mirabelle is crisp, food-friendly, and cuts right through anything salty, spicy, or rich on the menu — exactly what you want with pan-Asian dishes.
St. Supery Cabernet Sauvignon
Napa Cab is a crowd reflex, and St. Supery is fine — but a big, tannic red is working against most of what's on this menu. You're paying for a name that doesn't particularly earn it here, and there are better calls on this list for the food.
St. Supery Sauvignon Blanc + Pan-Asian stir fry or lighter noodle dish
St. Supery's Sauv Blanc runs herbaceous and citrus-forward with enough acidity to hold up against ginger, lemongrass, and soy-based sauces without disappearing into the dish. It's a natural fit for lighter, brighter menu items.
