The wine list here reads like a greatest hits of recognizable labels — nothing that's going to make your jaw drop, but nothing that's going to insult you either. Bottles topping out at $55 and glasses starting at $8 signal that this place is more interested in keeping the meze flowing than curating a cellar. For Helena, Montana, that's a reasonable position to take.
The list leans hard on California with Josh Cellars, La Crema, Ravenswood, and Blackstone doing most of the heavy lifting, rounded out by a few international regulars — Ruffino Chianti from Italy, Barton & Guestier Côte du Rhône from France, Punto Final Malbec from Argentina, and McGuigan from Australia. The one standout with any real pedigree is the Katherine Goldschmidt Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, which is a serious wine sitting in an otherwise grocery-tier lineup. There are no natural wines, no orange wines, and no real deep cuts — this is a list built for accessibility, not discovery. Gaps in Rosé, Sparkling, and anything from the Mediterranean region itself are a bit ironic given the restaurant's name.

Punto Final Malbec — $28
Argentine Malbec at the bottom of the bottle price range — easy-drinking, fruit-forward, and genuinely solid with grilled lamb or a meze platter. This is the move if you want a bottle without overthinking it.
Katherine Goldschmidt Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
This bottle is playing a completely different game than everything else on this list. Katherine Goldschmidt makes serious, structured Cabs from Alexander Valley — most diners here will scroll right past it for the Josh Cellars. Don't be that person.
Blackstone Merlot
A supermarket staple that's been coasting on name recognition for two decades. There's nothing wrong with it exactly, but at restaurant markup you can do meaningfully better on this same list.
Barton & Guestier Côte du Rhône + Grilled Lamb
Southern Rhône blends — typically Grenache-dominant with some garrigue and pepper — are practically engineered for grilled lamb. It's an old-world match that works every time, and at this price point it's one of the smarter pulls on the list.

Mediterranean Grill isn't trying to be a wine destination, and it doesn't need to be — it's a relaxed meze spot with fair prices and enough recognizable bottles to keep the table happy. Skip the safe picks, go for the Goldschmidt or the Côte du Rhône, and let the hummus do the rest of the work.

The Myrna Loy Pub isn't trying to be a destination wine bar, and it earns real credit for not pretending otherwise. A focused Oregon lean, $5 happy hour pours, and half-price bottles on Wednesdays make this the kind of place worth knowing about — especially if you're catching a show next door and want a glass that doesn't embarrass itself. We'd love to see a proper list posted so we can dig deeper, but what's here is quietly better than it needs to be.

The Hawthorn is exactly the kind of place that makes a mid-sized Montana city worth lingering in — a down-to-earth wine spot with a real point of view, solid food pairings like charcuterie boards and cheese plates, and staff that actually seems to give a damn. We'd send any friend here without hesitation, especially if they're in the mood to explore something Italian or old world without being lectured about it.
