The list leans hard on California with Josh Cellars, La Crema, Ravenswood, and Blackstone doing most of the heavy lifting, rounded out by a few international regulars — Ruffino Chianti from Italy, Barton & Guestier Côte du Rhône from France, Punto Final Malbec from Argentina, and McGuigan from Australia. Katherine Goldschmidt Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
This bottle is playing a completely different game than everything else on this list. Katherine Goldschmidt makes serious, structured Cabs from Alexander Valley — most diners here will scroll right past it for the Josh Cellars. Don't be that person.
Blackstone Merlot
A supermarket staple that's been coasting on name recognition for two decades. There's nothing wrong with it exactly, but at restaurant markup you can do meaningfully better on this same list.
Barton & Guestier Côte du Rhône + Grilled Lamb
Southern Rhône blends — typically Grenache-dominant with some garrigue and pepper — are practically engineered for grilled lamb. It's an old-world match that works every time, and at this price point it's one of the smarter pulls on the list.
