Wingman Metrics
The list reads like a Greatest Hits of American grocery store wine — you know every name on it, and that's kind of the point. Mediterranean Breeze isn't trying to wow anyone with obscure Jura producers or skin-contact Slovenians; it's a neighborhood restaurant that wants you comfortable, not challenged. That's fine, but it does mean you're paying restaurant prices for bottles your aunt keeps in her kitchen cabinet.
Eighteen bottles doesn't leave a lot of room to maneuver, and the list leans hard into California with a few Italian and New Zealand ringers. You've got your Prisoner, your Belle Glos, your Jordan Cab — the prestige-casual trifecta that shows up on lists like this coast to coast. The mid-tier is where things get shaky: Mark West Pinot Noir at $24, Apothic Red at $26, and Cavit Pinot Grigio at $24 are all marked up aggressively for what they are. To the restaurant's credit, Jordan at $95 and Kim Crawford at $24 actually show some restraint at the top and bottom ends.
Six pours at a flat $6 each is remarkably approachable — that's dive bar pricing with a sit-down dining room. The tradeoff is you're not getting anything thrilling; the house wines are exactly what you'd expect from a list built around recognizable labels. No rotation intel available, so don't count on a pleasant surprise mid-week.
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc — $24
Sixty percent markup over retail is practically generous by restaurant standards. Kim Crawford is a crowd-tested, clean Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc that punches above its price point — crisp, citrusy, and reliable. At $24 a bottle here, it's the easy call if you want a white that won't disappoint.
Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon
At $95 on a list like this, Jordan gets overlooked as an expensive splurge — but the markup is only 58% over retail, making it the most honestly priced bottle on the menu. This is a proper Alexander Valley Cab with real structure and age-worthiness. If you're splitting a bottle for a special occasion, this is where the money actually goes to work.
Cavit Pinot Grigio
At $24 a bottle, you're paying a 167% markup on a wine that retails for $9. Cavit is fine in a plastic cup on a boat. It is not a $24 restaurant bottle. Order the Kim Crawford instead and thank us later.
Benziger Sauvignon Blanc + Hummus and pita
Benziger's Sauvignon Blanc has enough herbaceous brightness and citrus edge to cut through tahini's richness without overwhelming it — and at a 71% markup it's one of the fairer pours on the list. Light, easy, and genuinely good with the kind of mezze starters a Mediterranean menu leads with.

Mediterranean Breeze is doing what it says on the tin — a relaxed room, recognizable bottles, and $6 glass pours that won't break anyone's budget. Skip the mid-tier markups, aim for Jordan or Kim Crawford, and you'll have a perfectly decent night.

Mustard Seed Helena isn't trying to be a wine destination, and it doesn't need to be — it's a solid neighborhood spot with a California-forward list that works with the food and won't wreck your bill. Send a friend here knowing they'll drink reasonably well, not remarkably well.

The Wassweiler is doing something genuinely surprising out on Highway 12 — a 115-bottle list with real depth and legitimate prestige names isn't something you stumble into accidentally. The markups will sting on the high end and the by-the-glass program is an afterthought, but if you're in Helena for a special occasion and you know what to order, this list rewards you.

Apollon is doing something legitimately unusual — building a real Greek wine program in a mid-size Midwestern city — and the list deserves more credit than it'll probably get. Markups on the French bottles are hard to justify, but if you stay in the Greek section and keep your spending focused, you'll drink better and more interestingly than almost anywhere else in Appleton.

Bernard is a legit Wild Card — nobody expects a casual Mediterranean spot in East Texas to be hiding Gaja and Oregon Pinot Noir between the gyro plates, but here we are.
