The wine list here is exactly what you expect the moment you walk through the door past the neon signs and the hostess stand — a laminated insert tucked inside the main menu, featuring names you recognize from your grocery store's bottom shelf. There's no drama, no discovery, no sense that anyone spent more than twenty minutes curating this. It is, in the truest sense, a list built for people who ordered wine by accident.
We're talking six to twelve wines, full stop. The entire regional footprint is California commercial production with one Italian import thrown in — Ecco Domani Pinot Grigio — to signal cosmopolitan ambition. Robert Mondavi Private Selection Cabernet, Clos du Bois Chardonnay, Barefoot Chardonnay, and a house red/white/rosé round out the roster. There are no vintage calls, no producer backstories, no small-production anything. This list wasn't built to excite anyone; it was built to avoid complaints.
Virtually everything on the list is available by the glass, which sounds generous until you realize the list is only the list. Prices run $4–$16 depending on the pour, which keeps things accessible if not inspiring. There's no rotation, no seasonal swap, no sense that a new glass option has been considered since the menu was last reprinted.
Robert Mondavi Private Selection Cabernet Sauvignon — $8
It's not a great Cabernet, but it's the most structured thing on this list and at chain pricing it won't hurt the wallet. Order it with the riblets and call it a night.
Ecco Domani Pinot Grigio
Relative to everything else here, the Ecco Domani is the most food-friendly option on the list — light, clean, and it won't fight whatever you ordered. It's the one bottle that at least gestures toward a wine made for eating.
House Red
The house red is a mystery blend from an unnamed source, and that opacity is never a good sign. At least with Barefoot you know what you're getting. The house pour is a gamble with no upside.
Ecco Domani Pinot Grigio + Oriental Chicken Salad
The Pinot Grigio's neutral, slightly crisp profile is the only thing on this list light enough to not bulldoze a salad. It won't elevate the dish, but it won't wreck it either — and that's the best we can do here.

Would we send a friend here for wine? Only if they were already eating here and needed something to wash down the riblets. The wine list is an afterthought, and everyone — including Applebee's — knows it.

The Wassweiler is doing something genuinely surprising out on Highway 12 — a 115-bottle list with real depth and legitimate prestige names isn't something you stumble into accidentally. The markups will sting on the high end and the by-the-glass program is an afterthought, but if you're in Helena for a special occasion and you know what to order, this list rewards you.
