The wine list at The Dutch Crown is short — 20-odd bottles — but it earns its keep by leaning into New York State instead of defaulting to the usual California parade. That alone tells you someone put actual thought into this. At a gastropub on Cannon Street, that counts for something.
The New York State backbone here is legitimately good: Hermann J. Wiemer Riesling from the Finger Lakes and Bedell Cellars Cabernet Franc off the North Fork are serious producers that most restaurants in Poughkeepsie wouldn't bother stocking. The Wolffer Estate Rosé rounds out the local story nicely. Where the list stumbles is the California filler — Meiomi Pinot Noir is a crowd-pleaser that undercuts the credibility the NY selections build. France shows up with Whispering Angel, which is fine but expected. The list is small, and the gaps show, but the floor is higher than you'd expect from a gastropub at this price point.
Eight to twelve pours by the glass at $12–$18 is reasonable for a downtown Poughkeepsie spot, and the glass program appears to include the New York producers rather than just defaulting to the mass-market bottles. Rotation seems limited — this feels like a list that gets set and revisited infrequently, so don't expect seasonal surprises.
Hermann J. Wiemer Riesling, Finger Lakes, New York — $40
Wiemer is one of the Finger Lakes' most respected producers, full stop. Finding a bottle in the $40 range at a gastropub is a genuine win — this wine typically commands more respect than it gets outside of New York State circles, and it's priced like they're not trying to make margin off of it.
Bedell Cellars Cabernet Franc, North Fork of Long Island
Most people at a gastropub reach for Pinot Noir or Cab Sauv by reflex. Bedell's Cab Franc from the North Fork is the one to order — earthy, slightly herbaceous, and a style that the Long Island wine scene does genuinely well. Most tables walk right past it.
Meiomi Pinot Noir, California
Meiomi is a reliable $15 grocery store bottle — sweet, approachable, and completely out of place next to the Wiemer and Bedell on this list. Whatever they're charging for it at the restaurant, you're overpaying relative to the alternatives sitting right next to it.
Bedell Cellars Cabernet Franc, North Fork of Long Island + Duck Confit
Duck confit has enough richness and fat to need something with structure and a little grip — Cab Franc's natural herbaceousness and bright acidity cut right through it without overwhelming the dish. A textbook match that the menu accidentally set up perfectly.

The Dutch Crown won't blow your mind, but it'll treat you right — especially if you steer toward the New York producers and ignore the filler. For a gastropub in the Hudson Valley, this is a wine list that's actually trying, and that's worth showing up for.
