The wine list at Pizzeria Posto is short, Italian-leaning, and built to move bottles without much fuss. It's not trying to be a wine destination — it's trying to get out of the way of the pizza, which, frankly, is a reasonable strategy. Nothing here is going to excite a wine nerd, but nothing is going to embarrass you either.
The list leans predictably Italian — Chianti Classico, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, and Pinot Grigio delle Venezie are the anchors, which at least makes geographic sense for a Neapolitan pizzeria. California makes a cameo in the way California always does on lists like this: a Cab, maybe a Chardonnay, there for the guests who won't touch anything with an unpronounceable name. There's no real depth to speak of — no producer differentiation, no vintage notes, no small-grower discoveries. It's a list assembled to cover the bases, not to start a conversation.
Six to ten options by the glass is a reasonable pour for a spot at this price point. Expect the Pinot Grigio and something Chianti-adjacent to lead the charge, with a token red and white from California rounding things out. Rotation appears minimal — this is a set-and-forget BTG program, not one that's getting refreshed with the seasons.
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo — $10
Montepulciano is one of Italy's most dependable pizza reds — dark fruit, soft tannins, enough acidity to cut through cheese without fighting your food. At a neighborhood spot, this is almost certainly the best bang-for-buck pour on the list.
Chianti Classico
Most people at a casual pizzeria order whatever's cheapest, but the Chianti Classico deserves a second look. Sangiovese's bright cherry and earthy bite is a natural match for tomato-forward Neapolitan pies, and it tends to be slightly underordered in favor of more familiar names.
Pinot Grigio delle Venezie
A perfectly fine wine in the right context, but at a Neapolitan pizzeria with wood-fired pies and bold toppings, a light, neutral Pinot Grigio gets lost. You're paying for something that will disappear against the food — save those dollars for the Montepulciano.
Chianti Classico + Margherita Pizza
Sangiovese's high acidity mirrors the brightness of San Marzano tomatoes, and the wine's earthy backbone plays off the char on a proper Neapolitan crust. It's a classic regional pairing for a reason — Tuscany and Naples aren't that far apart on a plate.
The Bottom Line
Pizzeria Posto isn't a wine destination, and it doesn't pretend to be — the list is short, safe, and Italian enough to make sense with the food. Come for the pizza, order the Montepulciano, and don't overthink it.
