First Impression

The wine bar at Estelle sets expectations high — a modern, buzzy lounge anchored by a list that clearly has some thought behind it. At 150-250 bottles strong and holding a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence since 2018, this isn't an afterthought program. It's not going to blow a wine nerd's mind, but for Jackson, Mississippi, it's doing real work.

Selection Deep Dive

California and France anchor the list, and that tracks for a Southern table crowd that wants familiar names done well. You've got the Napa heavy-hitters — Caymus, Jordan, Silver Oak Alexander Valley, Stag's Leap, Far Niente — alongside Louis Jadot holding down the Burgundy corner. It's a Greatest Hits package, not an adventure, but the hits are solid. What's missing is any meaningful exploration of Southern Rhône, domestic Pinot, or anything off the beaten path to give the list real dimension.

By the Glass

Twelve to twenty options by the glass is a respectable spread, and at $10–$18 a pour the pricing won't make you flinch. Expect the same California-forward leanings here — this isn't a list that's rotating in obscure Jura pours, but if you want a proper glass of Napa Cab with your catfish, Estelle has you covered.

💰Best Value

Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon — $40-$60

Jordan is a crowd-pleasing Alexander Valley Cab that consistently drinks above its price point — approachable, structured, and versatile enough to handle rich Southern fare without demanding your full attention.

💎Hidden Gem

Louis Jadot Burgundy

Most tables here are reaching for the Napa Cabs, which means the Jadot gets overlooked. A properly poured Burgundy at a Southern table is an underrated move — earthier, more food-friendly, and a nice contrast to the heavier bottles everyone else is ordering.

Skip This

Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon

Caymus is everywhere, and it's almost never priced to your advantage at a restaurant. At this point it's a brand more than a wine — you're paying for the name recognition, not discovery. Put that money toward something else on this list.

🍽️Perfect Pairing

Duckhorn Merlot + Smothered Pork Chop

Duckhorn Merlot brings enough dark fruit and soft tannins to stand up to the richness of a smothered pork chop without steamrolling it. It's the kind of pairing that feels obvious in hindsight — comfort food meets the most underrated Napa varietal.

✔️ The Bottom Line

Estelle isn't trying to be a destination wine program, but it's doing more than most restaurants in Jackson — and the Wine Spectator credential is earned. Send your friend here if they want a reliable, well-priced California-forward list with a Southern meal worth ordering around.
