Wingman Metrics
The wine bar at Estelle sets expectations high — a modern, buzzy lounge anchored by a list that clearly has some thought behind it. At 150-250 bottles strong and holding a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence since 2018, this isn't an afterthought program. It's not going to blow a wine nerd's mind, but for Jackson, Mississippi, it's doing real work.
California and France anchor the list, and that tracks for a Southern table crowd that wants familiar names done well. You've got the Napa heavy-hitters — Caymus, Jordan, Silver Oak Alexander Valley, Stag's Leap, Far Niente — alongside Louis Jadot holding down the Burgundy corner. It's a Greatest Hits package, not an adventure, but the hits are solid. What's missing is any meaningful exploration of Southern Rhône, domestic Pinot, or anything off the beaten path to give the list real dimension.
Twelve to twenty options by the glass is a respectable spread, and at $10–$18 a pour the pricing won't make you flinch. Expect the same California-forward leanings here — this isn't a list that's rotating in obscure Jura pours, but if you want a proper glass of Napa Cab with your catfish, Estelle has you covered.
Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon — $40-$60
Jordan is a crowd-pleasing Alexander Valley Cab that consistently drinks above its price point — approachable, structured, and versatile enough to handle rich Southern fare without demanding your full attention.
Louis Jadot Burgundy
Most tables here are reaching for the Napa Cabs, which means the Jadot gets overlooked. A properly poured Burgundy at a Southern table is an underrated move — earthier, more food-friendly, and a nice contrast to the heavier bottles everyone else is ordering.
Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon
Caymus is everywhere, and it's almost never priced to your advantage at a restaurant. At this point it's a brand more than a wine — you're paying for the name recognition, not discovery. Put that money toward something else on this list.
Duckhorn Merlot + Smothered Pork Chop
Duckhorn Merlot brings enough dark fruit and soft tannins to stand up to the richness of a smothered pork chop without steamrolling it. It's the kind of pairing that feels obvious in hindsight — comfort food meets the most underrated Napa varietal.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Estelle isn't trying to be a destination wine program, but it's doing more than most restaurants in Jackson — and the Wine Spectator credential is earned. Send your friend here if they want a reliable, well-priced California-forward list with a Southern meal worth ordering around.
The District at Eastover · Jackson · Mexican
Sombra's wine list isn't going to win any awards, but the Wine Wednesday half-price promotion turns an ordinary Tuesday-level list into a legitimately fun Wednesday-night move. Come for the tacos, stay for the deal.

Ridgeland / Jackson Suburbs · Jackson · Steakhouse
Kathryn's wine list is the culinary equivalent of a classic rock radio station — you know every song, there are no bad choices, but you're not going to discover anything new. Send a friend here if they want a reliable Napa Cab with their ribeye and zero decision fatigue.

Flowood · Jackson · Italian
Amerigo Flowood is exactly what it is: a reliable neighborhood Italian with a wine list that won't challenge you but won't fleece you either. Show up on a Wednesday, grab a half-price house bottle, and let the lasagna do the heavy lifting.

Shapley's is the best wine list in the Jackson metro area by a comfortable margin — 180 labels with genuine ambition, even if the markups lean toward the steakhouse standard of 'you're paying for the room.' If you're eating prime beef in Mississippi and you care about what's in your glass, this is where you come.

Local 463 is the best wine list in Mississippi that most wine people don't know exists — genuinely surprising depth in a context that earns it the Wild Card badge with ease. Markups run steep on the prestige bottles, but the sheer ambition of this list in Ridgeland, Mississippi is worth celebrating.

Table 100 is a reliable neighborhood spot that happens to have wine on the menu — the program is functional, the happy hour is genuinely good, and the Sunday half-price nights in December are worth planning around. Just don't come here hunting for anything you haven't seen before.

This is a wine list that exists purely because restaurants are expected to have one. Don't come to Applebee's for wine — but if you're already here and you need a glass, the Mondavi Cab won't embarrass you.

You're not coming to Hy-Vee Market Grille for a wine revelation — but on a Wednesday, with half-price pours and half-price sushi, it's one of the better casual deals in town. Manage expectations, bring cash, and embrace the absurdity.

This is a wine list for people who need wine with dinner and aren't interested in making it a thing — and it delivers exactly that without embarrassing anyone. If wine is important to your night, eat somewhere else; if you just want a glass of something recognizable while you watch the Gulf, you'll be fine.
