Walk into Bagatelle and the wine list feels like it took a wrong turn from a Napa tasting room and ended up on Duval Street — in the best possible way. For Key West, this is ambitious: 150 labels, real producers, real vintages. The tourist-trap wine trap is largely avoided here.
The list leans hard into California prestige — Opus One 2018, Cardinale 2019, Verite La Joie 2015 — which tells you exactly who they're courting. But there's a genuine French backbone too: Bollinger, Billecart-Salmon, and Chateau Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape in multiple collector vintages (2004, 2006, 2007, 2009) give serious drinkers something to work with. Willamette Valley Oregon and Italy get passing mentions but feel like afterthoughts relative to the Napa and Champagne heavy-hitters. The gaps are real — if you want natural wine, grower Champagne, or anything from Spain or Germany, you're out of luck.
Twelve to twenty pours by the glass is a solid count for a restaurant of this size, with prices running $14 to $28. That upper end buys you something worth drinking, though the full selection isn't published in detail online. Rotation appears minimal — this reads more like a static list than a program someone tends to weekly.
Bollinger Special Cuvee NV — $XX
Among the Champagne options, Bollinger punches well above its perceived prestige ceiling — it's a house that serious drinkers respect and casual drinkers overlook in favor of the yellow label. On a list that skews toward showier bottles, this is the move.
Chateau Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2006
Most tables here are ordering California Cabs and Veuve. Meanwhile, Beaucastel in a mature vintage — nearly two decades in — is a completely different animal: complex, earthy, and drinking in a window that won't stay open forever. Skip the Caymus and order this.
Caymus Vineyards 2020
Caymus is everywhere, marked up everywhere, and ordered by people who recognize the label rather than the wine. In a list with Cardinale and Verite in the same neighborhood, spending on Caymus is a waste of a decision.
Billecart-Salmon Brut Reserve NV + Stone crab claws
Stone crab has enough sweetness and brine that it needs something crisp and structured to cut through — not buttery, not oaky. Billecart-Salmon's Brut Reserve is precise and lean with real acidity, which does exactly that without overwhelming the crab.

Bagatelle is doing more with wine than most restaurants in the Keys bother to attempt, and for a tourist-heavy Duval Street address, that matters. The markups are real and the list skews safe-prestige, but if you're in Key West and want a proper bottle with your lobster, this is where you go.

Thirsty Mermaid is a Wild Card in the best sense — a no-frills raw bar that somehow sourced a wine list worthy of a much fancier room. The markups on the high-end bottles are steep and there's no wine program energy to speak of, but the Cava-and-oysters combination alone is worth the stop.

The Roost is a hotel bar doing more than the minimum — there's real range here and a few genuinely good picks if you know where to look. Just go in expecting to pay for the waterfront zip code, and you'll have a fine time.

Moondog isn't a wine destination, and it doesn't pretend to be — but it offers a surprisingly considered little list at prices that don't insult your intelligence, which puts it well ahead of the tourist-trap cafes clustered around it. If you're in Old Town and want a glass with your morning or a light lunch, there are worse decisions you'll make in Key West.
