Wingman Metrics
The open-air waterfront setting is genuinely great — salt air, live music, cold drinks, boats bobbing in the harbor. Then you glance at the wine list and realize this place has absolutely zero interest in what's in your glass, only that something is.
The list runs maybe a dozen SKUs and reads like a middle school cafeteria decided to stock wine. BV Coastal and Sterling Vineyards anchor the California side, which is fine for a poolside resort but feels lazy at an otherwise characterful Key West institution. Citra Pinot Grigio represents Italy, and the rest is a parade of 'house' wines with no stated producer, origin, or vintage. There's a Dom Pérignon on the bottle list — which is genuinely bizarre here — sitting alongside a 1.5L jug of unnamed Pinot Grigio like two strangers at a bus stop.
Seven pours available, capped at $7.50 a glass, which at least means nobody's getting robbed. The by-the-glass lineup is Sterling Sauvignon Blanc, Citra Pinot Grigio, BV Coastal Chardonnay, BV Coastal Merlot, BV Coastal Pinot Noir, a Freixenet split, and a house Chardonnay — nothing rotates, nothing surprises, nothing challenges.
Sterling Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc — $7.50/glass
At under eight bucks a pour, it's the most intentional wine on the menu. It's not complex, but it's clean, crisp, and actually appropriate for fresh Gulf shrimp in the Florida heat. Drink it cold, drink it fast.
Freixenet Champagne Split
A personal split of Freixenet at $5.25 is the kind of absurd little treat that fits this bar's vibe perfectly. Nobody's coming to Schooner Wharf for serious sparkling wine, but popping a cold split on the dock while watching the sun go down is genuinely fun.
Dom Pérignon Champagne
At $175 on a laminated bar menu in an open-air waterfront shack, this bottle has no business being here — and neither does your $175. The storage situation is 'acceptable' at best, and there's zero guarantee it's been handled with any care. Save the Dom for somewhere that gives a damn about it.
Sterling Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc + Fresh Gulf Shrimp
It's not a complicated equation: cold, slightly herbaceous Sauvignon Blanc, briny Gulf shrimp, ocean breeze. The wine has enough brightness to cut through butter and complement the salinity without overthinking it. Sometimes simple is right.
❌ The Bottom Line
Schooner Wharf is a legitimately great bar — just not a wine bar. Order a beer, get the shrimp, watch the sunset, and if you must have wine, grab the Sterling Sauv Blanc and call it a day.
Duval Street / Old Town · Key West · Seafood / New American
Bagatelle is doing more with wine than most restaurants in the Keys bother to attempt, and for a tourist-heavy Duval Street address, that matters. The markups are real and the list skews safe-prestige, but if you're in Key West and want a proper bottle with your lobster, this is where you go.

Thirsty Mermaid is a Wild Card in the best sense — a no-frills raw bar that somehow sourced a wine list worthy of a much fancier room. The markups on the high-end bottles are steep and there's no wine program energy to speak of, but the Cava-and-oysters combination alone is worth the stop.

Matt's is the wine list equivalent of a reliable vacation — it won't blow your mind, but it won't ruin your evening either. Order the Albariño, watch the boats, and save the wine exploration for somewhere that's actually trying.

The Roost is a hotel bar doing more than the minimum — there's real range here and a few genuinely good picks if you know where to look. Just go in expecting to pay for the waterfront zip code, and you'll have a fine time.

Moondog isn't a wine destination, and it doesn't pretend to be — but it offers a surprisingly considered little list at prices that don't insult your intelligence, which puts it well ahead of the tourist-trap cafes clustered around it. If you're in Old Town and want a glass with your morning or a light lunch, there are worse decisions you'll make in Key West.
