Wingman Metrics
The Urbana Lodge hands you a wine list that reads like a greatest hits album from your local wine shop — familiar names, approachable prices, no surprises. At $30–$80 a bottle, the sticker shock is minimal, and nearly the entire list is available by the glass, which is either a great sign of accessibility or a hint that bottles don't move fast enough. Either way, you're not going home empty-handed.
Twenty-one labels isn't a deep cellar, but it covers the bases: Cabernet, Pinot Noir, Malbec, Merlot, a red blend, and a solid white lineup from Chardonnay through Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio. The Maryland shoutout — Boordy Riesling — is a genuine bright spot in an otherwise coast-to-coast American-focused lineup. You're not finding aged Burgundy or anything remotely obscure here; the list is built for people who know what they like and don't want to stress about it. Gaps are obvious: no Syrah, no Tempranillo, no Italian reds beyond a Merlot from Chile's neighbor, and zero orange wine to speak of.
Nineteen of twenty-one bottles are available by the glass at $8–$12, which is genuinely reasonable and makes this a low-commitment wine bar experience tucked inside a tavern. The range by the glass mirrors the bottle list almost entirely, so you can taste around without dropping coin on a full bottle. The Moët & Chandon Garden Spritz split at $12 is a fun addition for the brunch or celebratory crowd.
Siete Fincas Malbec — $30
Malbec from Mendoza at $30 a bottle is hard to argue with — this is an easy-drinking, fruit-forward red that typically retails around $12–$15, so the markup is modest and the value is real. Order it and don't second-guess yourself.
Boordy Riesling
A Maryland-grown Riesling on a tavern wine list is not something you see every day. Boordy Vineyards out of Baltimore County has been doing this longer than most people realize, and this bottle at $30 is a chance to drink local without sacrificing quality. Most people will reach for the Kim Crawford out of habit — don't be that person.
Korbel Brut
At $45 a bottle, Korbel is a tough sell when La Marca Prosecco is sitting right next to it at $32 and delivering more for less. Korbel is fine for a toast, but it's California sparkling wine that retails under $15 and doesn't earn a $45 price tag regardless of the occasion.
La Crema Pinot Noir + Burger
La Crema's Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir at $46 has enough fruit and acidity to cut through a classic tavern burger without overwhelming it — it's the kind of pairing that makes people think you know something they don't.
The Bottom Line
The Urbana Lodge isn't trying to be a wine destination and it knows it — but the pricing is honest, the by-the-glass selection is genuinely broad, and the Boordy Riesling alone earns it a second look. Bring someone who wants a glass of something familiar and won't complain about the lack of a Côtes du Rhône.
· Frederick · Italian / Wine Bar
Vesuvius is doing something genuinely unusual: a flat $8-a-glass format with a list full of Southern Italian varietals most diners have never tried. It's not a deep cellar or a fine dining program, but the value-to-curiosity ratio here is almost unfair.

If you've never had Black Ankle and you're anywhere near Frederick, this is the easiest yes we can give you — a rare chance to taste one of Maryland's genuinely great producers in a focused, unpretentious setting. The single-producer format is a limitation, but when the producer is this good, it barely matters.

Mayta's isn't a wine destination, but Wine Down Wednesday makes it a genuinely fun, affordable place to eat and drink well enough. Come for the Lomo Saltado, grab the Malbec at half price, and don't overthink it.

Miyako's wine list exists to check a box, and it does that — nothing more. Order the sake, order a cocktail, or make peace with a Canyon Road pour and focus on the hibachi show.

Ayse is the kind of place that surprises you — a Frederick meze lounge with a genuinely considered Italian-leaning wine list that punches above its weight class, even if markups and a static program hold it back from true greatness. Send a friend here, but tell them to skip the Amarone and ask for the Moschofilero.

Bonefish Grill Frederick is a fine place to eat seafood, but the wine list is pure chain-restaurant autopilot — low risk, low reward, and no one in the kitchen or behind the bar is losing sleep over it. Order the Riesling at Social Hour, enjoy your salmon, and save the wine exploration for somewhere that's actually trying.

The Duck isn't a wine destination, but it's doing more with its Italian regional focus than most taverns in Worcester County bother to attempt. Come for the half roasted duck and let the list surprise you — just don't show up expecting a deep cellar.

Spoke & Wheel is a perfectly decent tavern to grab a drink after a hike, but the wine list is strictly functional — low effort, low excitement, low stakes. If wine matters to your evening, Sedona has better options.

Hollywood Tavern isn't a destination wine stop, but it's a damn solid place to drink well between winery visits. The Washington-focused list is honest, the value is real, and the Gorman and Latta pours alone justify the stop.
