The wine list at Vesuvius stops you cold the moment you see the price tag: $8 a glass, across the board, for every single pour on the menu. That kind of flat pricing is either a bold statement or a red flag — here, it turns out to be the former. The list punches well above its weight class for a small-town Maryland Italian spot.
Twenty-five labels, all available by the glass, and the list leans hard into Southern Italian varietals that most restaurants in Frederick wouldn't touch. Casa D'Ambra shows up twice — the Ischia Bianco Biancolella Blend and the Le Ninfe Falanghina Blend — which signals someone behind this list actually cares. Villa Matilde's Greco di Tufo and the Masciarelli Montepulciano d'Abruzzo give the program real Italian credibility. The reds are thinner on depth — a Merlot, a Malbec, and a generic Chianti round out the back half — but for a wine bar running this price point, the white and sparkling game more than compensates.
Every wine on the list is $8 a glass, all 25 of them — which is either the most democratic pricing model we've seen or a logistics masterstroke. The range spans Prosecco to Montepulciano, with real variety in the whites: two Falanghinas, two Chardonnays, two Sauvignon Blancs, a Pecorino, a Greco di Tufo, a Riesling. There's no rotation data, but the sheer breadth of the glass program is the main event.
Villa Matilde Greco Di Tufo — $8/glass
Greco di Tufo from Campania at $8 a glass is genuinely hard to find anywhere, let alone in Frederick. Villa Matilde is a serious producer and this pour alone is worth the trip.
Casa D'Ambra Ischia Bianco Biancolella Blend
Biancolella is a rare indigenous grape grown on the volcanic island of Ischia, and almost nobody outside hardcore Italian wine nerds knows it exists. At $8 a glass, this is a low-risk ticket to somewhere unexpected.
Croix D'Or Chardonnay
When you're surrounded by Falanghina, Greco di Tufo, and Biancolella for the same price, ordering a forgettable French-branded Chardonnay is a waste of a perfectly good $8.
Masciarelli Montepulciano D'Abruzzo + Pasta with red meat sauce
Masciarelli's Montepulciano is earthy, structured, and has enough acidity to cut through a rich Sunday-style ragù — it's the most naturally Italian pairing on the list and costs you $8.
The Bottom Line
Vesuvius is doing something genuinely unusual: a flat $8-a-glass format with a list full of Southern Italian varietals most diners have never tried. It's not a deep cellar or a fine dining program, but the value-to-curiosity ratio here is almost unfair.

The Urbana Lodge isn't trying to be a wine destination and it knows it — but the pricing is honest, the by-the-glass selection is genuinely broad, and the Boordy Riesling alone earns it a second look. Bring someone who wants a glass of something familiar and won't complain about the lack of a Côtes du Rhône.

If you've never had Black Ankle and you're anywhere near Frederick, this is the easiest yes we can give you — a rare chance to taste one of Maryland's genuinely great producers in a focused, unpretentious setting. The single-producer format is a limitation, but when the producer is this good, it barely matters.
