Wingman Metrics
Sixty-five labels at a chophouse in Gainesville, Georgia is not what you expect, and the sparkling section alone — running from a $38 Prosecco all the way to a $1,500 Salon Brut 2012 — signals that someone here actually thought about this list. The price floor is approachable and the ceiling is genuinely ambitious for a mid-sized Georgia city.
The whites lead with range: a proper St. Urbans-Hof Riesling sits next to the Orin Swift Mannequin and a Saldo Chenin Blanc, which tells you the list isn't just chasing recognizable labels. The bubbles section is the real standout — Joseph Cattin and Lucien Albrecht Crémants give budget-conscious drinkers a real alternative to the Veuve Clicquot and Charles Heidsieck anchoring the mid-tier. We don't have visibility into the full red lineup, but 65 total labels for a steakhouse means the reds are likely carrying most of that weight. Gaps: no obvious Old World deep-cuts on the white side, and the rosé is a single entry in Domaine Martin.
Seventeen by-the-glass options is a healthy pour program for a steakhouse, running from $10 to $18 per glass. The HourGlass Sauvignon Blanc at $18/glass is the top of the BTG range, and the Ca'Furlan Prosecco at $10/glass gives you a legitimate sparkling entry point without committing to a bottle. Rotation isn't documented, so treat the list as relatively fixed.
The Bottom Line
The Stag is doing more than most steakhouses bother to do with wine — a thoughtful sparkling section, fair markups, and a few genuinely interesting whites make this list worth engaging with rather than defaulting to a cocktail. If you're eating steak in Gainesville, this is where you want to be drinking.

· Gainesville · Steakhouse
CHR Steak is doing what a steakhouse in Gainesville, Georgia should do: keeping the focus on American Cabs, pricing fairly, and giving guests enough by-the-glass variety to make a whole dinner interesting without forcing a bottle commitment. It's not a wine destination, but if you're sitting down to a steak here, you won't be stuck drinking something bad or paying through the nose for it — and that's a bar more places should clear.

Luna's is a genuinely pleasant place to have dinner, and the wine list won't embarrass anyone — but it's built for comfort, not discovery. If you're coming for the Chicken Marsala and a glass of something red in a nice room, you'll leave happy. If wine is the reason you're making the reservation, you may want to call ahead and ask what's actually on the list before you commit.

Amelia's is a genuinely pleasant dinner destination in downtown Gainesville, and the food — especially the lobster ravioli and veal piccata — gives the wine list every opportunity to shine. It just doesn't quite meet the moment. Come for the food, order a bottle to share, and don't expect the list to surprise you.

Piesanos isn't trying to be a wine destination, and the list makes that abundantly clear. The pricing is at least fair for what it is, and the Banfi Chianti or Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling will serve you better than defaulting to Canyon Road on autopilot. If wine matters to you, this is a beer-and-pizza night disguised as an Italian restaurant.

Shula's is a competent hotel steakhouse wine program — it won't embarrass you in front of a client, but it won't thrill you either. The regional framework is solid, the pricing almost certainly reflects the hotel setting, and the list is designed for comfort over curiosity. If you're in Gainesville and need a reliable red with a serious steak, it gets the job done; just don't show up expecting a deep dive.

Cork It punches above its weight for a Gainesville wine bar — fair prices, a huge by-the-glass list, and at least a few genuinely interesting picks hiding among the crowd-pleasers. If you're in town and want a real glass of wine rather than a rum bucket, this is where you go.

The Ridge is a solid night out if you're in Forsyth County and want a steak with a side of live music and forest air — the wine program just isn't the reason to come. Until the list is published and verifiable, order something bold and red, enjoy your filet, and let the scenery do the heavy lifting.

Graysons puts together a wine list that would hold its own in Atlanta, let alone Newnan. The by-the-glass depth is the real headline — 36 options with fair pricing means you can explore without committing to a bottle or breaking the bank. If you're in Coweta County and want a proper glass of wine with your steak, this is your spot.

Marc Bar & Restaurant is essentially the estate dining room of Chateau Elan winery, and the wine list makes no attempt to be anything else — every pour is an in-house production. If you're already on property and curious about Georgia wine, the pricing is fair and the by-the-glass availability across the full list is genuinely guest-friendly. But if you're traveling specifically for a serious wine experience alongside your steak, this list will leave you wanting.
