Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Piesanos reads like a greatest hits of mid-tier grocery store shelves — Canyon Road appears no fewer than five times, which tells you most of what you need to know. It's not offensive, and the prices are reasonable enough, but there's zero ambition here. This is a list built for the path of least resistance.
Twenty-two labels sounds like a real list until you realize Canyon Road is doing the heavy lifting across Cabernet, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Moscato. The red side leans California heavy with Josh Cellars, Gnarly Head, Sterling, and Mirassou filling out the familiar faces. There's a token nod to Italy with Banfi Chianti and Ecco Domani Pinot Grigio, and Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling from Washington is genuinely the most interesting thing on here. No natural wine, no real regional exploration, nothing that would surprise anyone who's walked through a Total Wine in the last decade.
With 20 of 22 bottles available by the glass, at least nobody's forcing you into a full bottle of Canyon Road Moscato — small mercies. Glass pours run $7.50 to $14, which is honest pricing for what you're getting. There's no rotation or seasonal program to speak of; what's on the list is what's on the list, indefinitely.
The Bottom Line
Piesanos isn't trying to be a wine destination, and the list makes that abundantly clear. The pricing is at least fair for what it is, and the Banfi Chianti or Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling will serve you better than defaulting to Canyon Road on autopilot. If wine matters to you, this is a beer-and-pizza night disguised as an Italian restaurant.
University Area · Gainesville · Steakhouse
Shula's is a competent hotel steakhouse wine program — it won't embarrass you in front of a client, but it won't thrill you either. The regional framework is solid, the pricing almost certainly reflects the hotel setting, and the list is designed for comfort over curiosity. If you're in Gainesville and need a reliable red with a serious steak, it gets the job done; just don't show up expecting a deep dive.

Cork It punches above its weight for a Gainesville wine bar — fair prices, a huge by-the-glass list, and at least a few genuinely interesting picks hiding among the crowd-pleasers. If you're in town and want a real glass of wine rather than a rum bucket, this is where you go.

Superette is the kind of place that shouldn't exist in a mid-sized Florida college town, and yet here it is — a genuinely thoughtful natural wine program with fair pricing and a vibe that makes you want to stay longer than you planned. Send your friends, but tell them to skip the Pinot.

Downtown Gainesville · Gainesville · French
Alpin Bistro is doing something genuinely rare in North Florida: building a focused, France-first wine list with real producers and fair pricing on the bottles that matter. The Wednesday BOGO is the best wine deal in Gainesville — show up with a friend and let the Loire Valley do its thing.

Northwest Gainesville (Magnolia Parke area) · Gainesville · American café, healthy/locals-focused
One Love Café is never going to be your destination for wine, but the Wednesday half-price bottle deal at a laid-back outdoor café makes it a genuinely good call when you want something easygoing and inexpensive. Come for the vibe, stay for the deal — just don't expect anyone to talk you through the list.

Downtown Norcross · Norcross · Italian / Pizza
Paizanos doesn't pretend to be a wine destination, but the list earns more respect than the casual dining format might suggest — fair pricing, a thoughtful Italian focus, and enough half-bottle options to keep the evening interesting. If you're heading to downtown Norcross for a weeknight dinner or a low-key date night, you can drink well here without working too hard to find the right bottle.

Zano's wine list is the restaurant equivalent of a reliable friend — it won't surprise you, but it won't let you down either. Fair prices, familiar producers, and a local wine cameo from Truckee River Winery give it just enough personality to earn a pass. If you're skiing in Truckee and need a bottle of Rombauer Chardonnay with your margherita, this is your spot.

· Princeton · Italian / Pizza
LaScala's Fire Princeton offers a functional, crowd-friendly wine list that does the job without making any bold moves. The by-the-glass selection is genuinely broad and pricing stays reasonable at the lower end, but markups on recognizable names like Kim Crawford and Veuve Clicquot are steep enough to notice. Send a friend here for a casual pizza night — just point them toward the Vermentino or the Prosecco and away from the big-name bottles.
