Wingman Metrics
The list at CHR Steak is unapologetically built for steak drinkers — and there's nothing wrong with that. Seventy-three labels, a massive by-the-glass program, and a clear mission: get Cabernet on the table. It's not adventurous, but it's not pretending to be.
The list leans hard into California Cabernet, with stops in Napa, Paso Robles, Sonoma, and Knights Valley covering most of the real estate. Washington sneaks in via Chateau Ste. Michelle's Cold Creek bottling, and there's a nod to Willamette Valley with Holloran Pinot Noir and Belle Glos Clark & Telephone rounding out the red side. Old World is essentially absent — if you're hunting Burgundy, Barolo, or Rioja, this isn't your spot. What CHR does offer is a well-curated corridor of crowd-friendly American reds at prices that don't feel punishing, which is more than most steakhouses in a small Georgia city can claim.
Fifty-nine by-the-glass options is a genuinely impressive number — most restaurants manage twelve and call it a day. The glass prices run $10 to $23, and nearly every bottle on the list appears to have a glass pour available, which means you can explore without committing to a full bottle. The range in quality from Sean Minor Nicole Marie at $11/glass up to Ancient Oak Russian River Pinot at $23/glass gives the table real options at different spend levels.
The Bottom Line
CHR Steak is doing what a steakhouse in Gainesville, Georgia should do: keeping the focus on American Cabs, pricing fairly, and giving guests enough by-the-glass variety to make a whole dinner interesting without forcing a bottle commitment. It's not a wine destination, but if you're sitting down to a steak here, you won't be stuck drinking something bad or paying through the nose for it — and that's a bar more places should clear.

· Gainesville · Fine Dining
Luna's is a genuinely pleasant place to have dinner, and the wine list won't embarrass anyone — but it's built for comfort, not discovery. If you're coming for the Chicken Marsala and a glass of something red in a nice room, you'll leave happy. If wine is the reason you're making the reservation, you may want to call ahead and ask what's actually on the list before you commit.

Amelia's is a genuinely pleasant dinner destination in downtown Gainesville, and the food — especially the lobster ravioli and veal piccata — gives the wine list every opportunity to shine. It just doesn't quite meet the moment. Come for the food, order a bottle to share, and don't expect the list to surprise you.

Piesanos isn't trying to be a wine destination, and the list makes that abundantly clear. The pricing is at least fair for what it is, and the Banfi Chianti or Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling will serve you better than defaulting to Canyon Road on autopilot. If wine matters to you, this is a beer-and-pizza night disguised as an Italian restaurant.

Shula's is a competent hotel steakhouse wine program — it won't embarrass you in front of a client, but it won't thrill you either. The regional framework is solid, the pricing almost certainly reflects the hotel setting, and the list is designed for comfort over curiosity. If you're in Gainesville and need a reliable red with a serious steak, it gets the job done; just don't show up expecting a deep dive.

Cork It punches above its weight for a Gainesville wine bar — fair prices, a huge by-the-glass list, and at least a few genuinely interesting picks hiding among the crowd-pleasers. If you're in town and want a real glass of wine rather than a rum bucket, this is where you go.

Superette is the kind of place that shouldn't exist in a mid-sized Florida college town, and yet here it is — a genuinely thoughtful natural wine program with fair pricing and a vibe that makes you want to stay longer than you planned. Send your friends, but tell them to skip the Pinot.

The Butcher and Bottle isn't trying to be a wine destination — it's a steakhouse with a sensible, well-priced list that keeps things moving. The near-total by-the-glass program is genuinely smart, and the pricing is fairer than most places in this category. If you want adventure, look elsewhere; if you want a reliable Cab with your ribeye at a price that won't ruin the evening, this works.

Connors is a reliable steakhouse wine list that does its job without embarrassing itself or dazzling anyone. The by-the-glass count is a genuine bright spot, markups are steep but consistent with the category, and the selection covers the bases its clientele expects. Send a friend here if they want a solid glass of California Cab with their ribeye — just don't send them expecting anything they haven't already seen.

· West Palm Beach · Steakhouse
Ruth's Chris West Palm Beach delivers exactly what the brand promises: a safe, accessible wine list built around familiar producers and crowd-pleasing styles. The all-by-the-glass format is a genuine plus, and a few selections like the Siduri Willamette Pinot and Chalk Hill Chardonnay are worth your time — but markups are steep and the list won't reward curiosity. If you're here for the steak, you'll find something to drink; just don't expect the wine to be the reason you came.
