Walking into the Allison's bar and lounge, you half expect a generic hotel wine list — predictable California cabs, maybe a token Oregon Pinot. What you get instead is a Champagne program that would make a Paris bistro blush. This is not an accident; someone here genuinely cares.
The list runs 150 to 250 bottles deep with a Willamette Valley backbone that makes sense given the address — you're literally surrounded by vineyards. But the real story is the grower Champagne section, which reads like a master class: Jacques Selosse 'Substance' and 'Initial' Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs sit alongside Bérèche et Fils, Agrapart & Fils 'Terroirs' Extra Brut, Suenen Oiry Grand Cru, and Lilbert-Fils Cramant — names that most restaurants in major cities can't even source. The prestige houses are represented too (Krug Grande Cuvée, Bollinger Special Cuvée, Taittinger 'Prélude'), but they don't dominate. Local Oregon producers get their due, and a Vincent Paris Collines Rhodaniennes Syrah from the Northern Rhône shows the list isn't just Pinot-and-bubbles tunnel vision.
With 20 to 35 pours available by the glass, the program doesn't just tease you with the good stuff and lock it behind bottles. Bollinger Special Cuvée is already a benchmark Champagne at full price — structured, toasty, reliable. At half price during the 2-5 p.m. daily Happy Hour, it's the easiest call on the list. Show up early, order a second glass.
Bérèche et Fils Brut Réserve NV
Most people at this bar are gravitating toward Krug or Selosse and ignoring Bérèche — which is exactly how we like it. This is one of the most thoughtful Récoltant-Manipulant houses in all of Champagne, and the Brut Réserve is their calling card: complex, precise, genuinely interesting. It flies under the radar next to the bigger names on this list and it absolutely should not.
Domaine Serene Evenstad Reserve Brut NV
Domaine Serene makes fine wine, but on a list that includes Jacques Selosse, Agrapart, and Suenen, paying for a domestic sparkling wine feels like ordering a house salad at a steakhouse. The grower Champagnes here offer more complexity and story for similar or comparable spend. Save your appetite.
Agrapart & Fils 'Terroirs' Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Extra Brut NV + Oysters or shellfish from the JORY Restaurant menu
Agrapart 'Terroirs' is all chalk and citrus tension — it's basically built for shellfish. The Extra Brut dosage keeps it lean and saline, and the Grand Cru Chardonnay weight gives it enough presence to stand up to the brine. Classic pairing, exceptional execution.

The Allison's bar and lounge is doing something genuinely rare: a grower Champagne program deep enough to anchor a dedicated wine bar, bolted onto a luxury hotel in the Willamette Valley. If you're anywhere near Newberg, this is worth the detour — ideally timed to the 2 p.m. Happy Hour.

Jay's is a perfectly decent neighborhood hangout where wine is an afterthought — and that's fine, except you're in Newberg, Oregon, surrounded by world-class Pinot Noir producers who'd love to be on a list like this. If you're here for the wings and a cold drink, you're in the right place; if you came for the wine, you took a wrong turn about three exits back.
