You're at a public golf course bar in wine country — Willamette Valley literally surrounds this place — and the wine list is six bottles long. Six. The Chehalem Hills are producing some of the best Pinot Noir on the planet, and the bar at Chehalem Glenn is pouring Gnarly Head Chardonnay. It's a little like hosting a BBQ in Kansas City and serving gas station brisket.
The list reads like a distributor rep stopped by with a sample bag of his most-ordered SKUs and nobody pushed back. You get one Oregon Pinot Noir (Rainstorm, a perfectly fine mid-tier label), one Italian Pinot Grigio (Caposaldo), one California Chardonnay (Gnarly Head), two La Marca Proseccos, and a mystery 'House Red Cabernet' that isn't attributed to anyone. For a bar sitting inside one of the most celebrated wine regions in North America, the absence of any local winery pours — no Adelsheim, no Rex Hill, no A to Z, nothing from a neighbor down the road — is a genuine missed opportunity. This is exactly the list you'd expect at an Applebee's in Des Moines, not a golf course surrounded by Pinot vineyards.
Four pours available by the glass, ranging from $7 to $10, which is perfectly reasonable pricing. The problem isn't the cost — it's the selection. You're essentially choosing between Rainstorm Pinot, Caposaldo Grigio, Gnarly Head Chard, and La Marca Prosecco. Rotation appears nonexistent; this is a set-it-and-forget-it program.
La Marca Prosecco — $8/glass
At $8 a glass, this is the most defensible pour on the list. It's not a serious wine, but La Marca is clean, crowd-pleasing, and honestly the right call after 18 holes in the Oregon sun. The $28/bottle price is reasonable if you're with a group.
Rainstorm Pinot Noir
It's the only Oregon wine on a list that should be all Oregon wines, and it actually earns its spot. Rainstorm is a legitimate Willamette Valley producer making approachable Pinot at a fair price. On a list this thin, it's the one pour that makes geographic sense and delivers.
Gnarly Head Chardonnay
A $9 pour of California commodity Chardonnay at a bar surrounded by Oregon wine country is a hard pass. This is the wine that most clearly signals the list wasn't curated with any intention. Save your $9.
Rainstorm Pinot Noir + Burger
A golf course grill burger is almost certainly on the menu, and Oregon Pinot — even at the approachable Rainstorm tier — has enough fruit and acid to cut through it without overwhelming. It's the one pairing here that actually makes sense given where you are.
❌ The Bottom Line
Come here for the golf, the views, and a cold beer after your round — the wine list is an afterthought in one of America's great wine regions, and that's a shame. If you must order wine, grab the Rainstorm Pinot and appreciate the irony of drinking Oregon on an Oregon golf course while a hundred better bottles go unpoured nearby.

If you're doing the Eola-Amity Hills wine trail and want to veer off the Pinot-only path, stop here.

Jay's is a perfectly decent neighborhood hangout where wine is an afterthought — and that's fine, except you're in Newberg, Oregon, surrounded by world-class Pinot Noir producers who'd love to be on a list like this. If you're here for the wings and a cold drink, you're in the right place; if you came for the wine, you took a wrong turn about three exits back.

The Allison's bar and lounge is doing something genuinely rare: a grower Champagne program deep enough to anchor a dedicated wine bar, bolted onto a luxury hotel in the Willamette Valley. If you're anywhere near Newberg, this is worth the detour — ideally timed to the 2 p.m. Happy Hour.
