Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Rosmarino is short enough to read in two minutes flat β and interesting enough that you'll want to read it twice. This is not a restaurant trying to impress you with a 200-label tome; it's a chef-driven osteria that picked its wines the same way it picked its menu: deliberately, with an Italian accent. What catches your eye immediately is that this Newberg spot isn't just leaning on its Willamette Valley backyard β it's going full boot-country, and mostly pulling it off.
The list runs a tight north-to-south Italian transect: Piedmont anchors the whites and lighter reds with an Arneis DOCG, a Barbera d'Alba 'Tunin' 2021, and a Nebbiolo d'Alba 2020, while Tuscany shows up with a Chianti Classico Riserva 2019, a Toscana Rosso 'Sogno' IGT 2020, and a Brunello di Montalcino 2018 that raises the ceiling considerably. The genuinely surprising move is a Dolcetto from the Yamhill-Carlton AVA β an Oregon-grown, Italian-variety wine that feels exactly right in this context and reminds you where you're actually sitting. Gaps exist: no Vermentino, no Soave, no southern Italian representation, and the sparkling section is a single unnamed house pour, which is a missed opportunity given how well Franciacorta or even a CrΓ©mant would play here. Still, for a list this size, the intention is clear and the execution holds up.
Nine pours by the glass is generous for a list this compact, and the range covers Bianco, RosΓ©, Bubbles, and Vino Rosso in a $10β$20 window that won't make you do painful math before ordering. The Terre Alfieri Arneis DOCG 'Alfiere Bianco' and the Moscato d'Asti 'Ambrosia' (available in 375ml, which is the correct way to serve Moscato) are the standout glass options β both regional, both purposeful. We'd love to see the Barbera and Nebbiolo available by the glass consistently, as they're the heart of the list and shouldn't be bottle-only.
Barbera d'Alba 'Tunin' 2021 β $40β$55
Barbera at a well-priced Italian restaurant is almost always the move β it's versatile, food-friendly, and rarely marked up aggressively. The 'Tunin' hits that profile: it's a proper Piedmontese Barbera with the acidity to cut through rich pasta sauces, and it sits in a price range where you're not sacrificing anything to drink it.
Dolcetto 'Yamhill-Carlton AVA' 2022
Most tables will walk right past this one looking for something with a more familiar Italian address. Don't. A Willamette Valley Dolcetto is a rare and legitimately interesting thing β the cool climate plays well with the grape's naturally lower tannins and bright cherry character, and ordering it here feels like the right read of the room. It's the most 'Rosmarino' wine on the list.
Bollicine 'Sparkling Wine' (house sparkling)
No producer, no vintage, no region β just 'house sparkling.' That's not a wine program decision, that's a placeholder. At a restaurant this intentional about everything else on the list, an anonymous bubbles pour feels like a cop-out. Start with the Arneis instead.
Nebbiolo d'Alba 2020 + Handmade Gnocchi
Nebbiolo's firm tannins and sour-cherry acidity need richness to soften them up β gnocchi with a braised meat ragΓΉ or a brown butter preparation is exactly that. It's a classic Piedmontese pairing logic: the grape and the pasta come from the same hills, and they behave like they know each other.
π² The Bottom Line
Rosmarino is doing something quietly ambitious: building an all-Italian wine list in the middle of Pinot Noir country and making it feel completely natural. It's not a deep list, but it's an honest one β and that Yamhill-Carlton Dolcetto alone is worth the detour.

Varnum Vintners is the kind of small Oregon producer tasting room that rewards curious drinkers willing to lean into something a little different β primarily bubbles, zero pretension, and prices that won't make you wince. If you're doing the Eola-Amity Hills wine trail and want to veer off the Pinot-only path, stop here.

This isn't a wine list β it's a masterclass in one winery's output, and Chehalem has more than enough depth to make that a worthwhile trip. If you're in the Willamette Valley and haven't booked a flight here yet, fix that.

Jay's is a perfectly decent neighborhood hangout where wine is an afterthought β and that's fine, except you're in Newberg, Oregon, surrounded by world-class Pinot Noir producers who'd love to be on a list like this. If you're here for the wings and a cold drink, you're in the right place; if you came for the wine, you took a wrong turn about three exits back.

Come here for the golf, the views, and a cold beer after your round β the wine list is an afterthought in one of America's great wine regions, and that's a shame. If you must order wine, grab the Rainstorm Pinot and appreciate the irony of drinking Oregon on an Oregon golf course while a hundred better bottles go unpoured nearby.
