The wine list at Jay's is exactly what you'd expect from a Portland Road bar-and-grill where the real stars are burgers and wings. It's short, safe, and built for people who want a glass of something familiar without having to think about it. No surprises — and we mean that in the least exciting way possible.
The list leans hard on California and New Zealand, which tells you everything: this is a crowd-pleaser program with zero regional ambition. You've got Caymus Cabernet holding down the prestige slot, Justin Cab covering the middle ground, and Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc rounding things out for the white wine crowd. That's essentially three brands doing all the heavy lifting on a list of 10-20 wines. For a restaurant sitting in the heart of Willamette Valley wine country — one of the most celebrated Pinot Noir regions on the planet — the absence of a single local producer is a genuine miss.
Six to ten pours by the glass, priced between $8 and $14, which is honest and accessible for a neighborhood spot. The range almost certainly mirrors the bottle list: recognizable names, zero rotation, nothing that's going to make you put your phone down. It's a serviceable glass of wine to go with your burger, and that's about the ceiling here.
Justin Cabernet Sauvignon — $14
Justin is a reliably solid Central Coast Cab that shows up consistently across retail and restaurants. At the top of Jay's price range, it's a fair pour — you know what you're getting, and it won't embarrass itself next to a burger.
Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc
Nobody comes to a bar and grill ordering Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, but Oyster Bay is genuinely one of the more consistent expressions of the style at this price point. On a warm evening on the patio, it's sharper and more food-friendly than anything else on this list.
Caymus Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon
Caymus has become the poster child for overpriced, over-oaked Napa Cab that coasts on name recognition. You're paying a prestige premium for a wine that's been stretched thin by massive production. The Justin does a similar job for less.
Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc + Wings
The bright acidity and citrus snap of the Sauvignon Blanc cut through the fat and heat of a sauced wing better than either Cab on this list. It's not glamorous, but it actually works.

Jay's is a perfectly decent neighborhood hangout where wine is an afterthought — and that's fine, except you're in Newberg, Oregon, surrounded by world-class Pinot Noir producers who'd love to be on a list like this. If you're here for the wings and a cold drink, you're in the right place; if you came for the wine, you took a wrong turn about three exits back.

The Allison's bar and lounge is doing something genuinely rare: a grower Champagne program deep enough to anchor a dedicated wine bar, bolted onto a luxury hotel in the Willamette Valley. If you're anywhere near Newberg, this is worth the detour — ideally timed to the 2 p.m. Happy Hour.
