Walk in and you immediately clock that this place is serious about sparkling wine in a way that most Oregon tasting rooms simply are not. The PORCH lineup — their house sparkling series — dominates the menu, and it feels intentional rather than gimmicky. Prices are modest enough that you're not doing mental math before every pour.
Varnum Vintners is playing a niche game and winning it: a small, Oregon-only roster anchored by traditional-method sparkling wines and a handful of still bottles. The PORCH series alone spans a Secco, a Pink, a Sekt Semi Sweet Riesling, a Brut (Chardonnay/Albariño/Riesling blend — genuinely unusual for this region), and a non-alcoholic Brut Zero Gold, which shows some range even outside the boozy stuff. The still side is lean — a 2023 Eola-Amity Pinot Noir, a 2022 Syrah, and a 2024 Rosé — but the Zolnikov Vineyard Blanc de Blancs program is where things get genuinely interesting, with a 2021 vintage and a five-year tirage NV bottling that would embarrass tasting rooms charging twice as much. Don't come expecting a cellar deep-dive across multiple producers; this is a maker's showcase, and within that lane, it's well-executed.
Flights are the move here at $15, which is the primary structured tasting format. Individual glass pours are available but the flight is the real entry point — it's how you work through the sparkling lineup without committing to a bottle before you know which direction you're going. By-the-glass specifics aren't clearly listed beyond that framework, so show up ready to taste your way in.
Varnum Vintners 2024 Brut (Chardonnay/Albariño/Riesling) — $28
A Chardonnay/Albariño/Riesling sparkling blend from the Eola-Amity Hills for $28 is genuinely strange — in the best way. That blend shouldn't work on paper, and yet here we are. At this price you're taking virtually no risk, and if it lands, you've found your new house sparkling.
Varnum NV Namaste Five Year Tirage Blanc de Blanc
Five years on the lees for $50 is the kind of deal that Champagne houses would laugh at if it weren't so earnest. Most visitors walk past it chasing the more approachable PORCH pours, but this is the bottle that shows Varnum can go deep when they want to.
Varnum Vintners 2021 Blanc de Blancs (Zolnikov Vineyard)
At $75 it's not a rip-off, but when the NV five-year tirage Blanc de Blancs is sitting right there at $50 with more bottle age, the math on the 2021 gets harder to justify. Not a bad wine — just the weakest value on a list that otherwise prices fairly.
Varnum Vintners 2023 PORCH Pink + Charcuterie board
It's a tasting room — a charcuterie board is likely your food option, and a light sparkling rosé at $14 a glass cuts through cured meat fat without demanding anything from you. Low stakes, high reward.

Varnum Vintners is the kind of small Oregon producer tasting room that rewards curious drinkers willing to lean into something a little different — primarily bubbles, zero pretension, and prices that won't make you wince. If you're doing the Eola-Amity Hills wine trail and want to veer off the Pinot-only path, stop here.

Jay's is a perfectly decent neighborhood hangout where wine is an afterthought — and that's fine, except you're in Newberg, Oregon, surrounded by world-class Pinot Noir producers who'd love to be on a list like this. If you're here for the wings and a cold drink, you're in the right place; if you came for the wine, you took a wrong turn about three exits back.
