Wingman Metrics
The wine list at TSK doesn't try to impress you with volume — it tries to impress you with intention. You flip through and immediately notice this isn't a generic steakhouse list copy-pasted from a distributor catalog. Someone here actually cares, and the Old World lean is evident from the first page.
The list runs 60-100 bottles and punches above its weight class by focusing on Burgundy, the Rhône, Alsace, Loire, Northern Italy, and solid domestic representation from California and Oregon. Domaine Weinbach anchors the Alsace section with the kind of credibility that takes years to build, and Brundlmayer's Grüner Veltliner signals that whoever built this list knows their Austrian whites. The natural and biodynamic producers scattered throughout give the list a personality that most Newport restaurants — where safe Napa Cabs and prosecco dominate — simply don't bother to develop. The gaps are real: if you're hunting for depth in South America or a serious Spanish section, you won't find it here.
Ten to sixteen by-the-glass options is a solid count for a restaurant this size, and the selections track with the bottle list's Old World sensibility. We'd expect the Grüner Veltliner and at least one Loire white to show up here, which is exactly the kind of by-the-glass programming that makes this list useful rather than decorative. Rotation frequency is unclear, but the range suggests someone is paying attention.
Brundlmayer Grüner Veltliner — $40–$55
Austrian Grüner at this tier almost always overdelivers relative to price — crisp, mineral, and built for the kind of seafood and vegetable dishes TSK does best. At the lower end of TSK's bottle range, it's the move.
Domaine Weinbach (Alsace)
Most diners walk past Alsace on any wine list, which is a mistake. Weinbach is a benchmark producer — biodynamic, family-run, and capable of extraordinary precision. At a farm-to-table spot with charcuterie and seasonal vegetables on the menu, an Alsatian white from Weinbach is exactly what the table needs and almost nobody orders it.
California Selections
The California bottles here aren't the reason to come. In a list built around artisan Old World producers, the domestic options feel like obligatory placeholders — and at Newport restaurant prices, you're not getting value. Go European, go specific.
Brundlmayer Grüner Veltliner + Local Seafood Preparation
Grüner's white pepper snap and high acid cut right through whatever TSK is doing with local Rhode Island seafood — whether it's something rich and butter-finished or lighter and citrus-driven. This is the pairing that makes the list make sense.
🎲 The Bottom Line
TSK is quietly one of the better wine lists in Newport, which is a town that doesn't exactly set a high bar — but this one would hold its own in most cities. If you're eating farm-to-table food and want a bottle that actually matches the kitchen's ethos, this is your spot.
Outskirts / North End · Newport · Farm-to-Table / Winery Restaurant
Brix isn't trying to be a destination wine list — it's trying to be a great ambassador for one vineyard's work, and it mostly succeeds. Send your curious friends here; send your Burgundy obsessives somewhere else.

Lower Thames / Residential Edge · Newport · Classic Italian
Mamma Luisa isn't a wine destination, but it's a solid, honest Italian list that does right by the food coming out of the kitchen. Send a friend here for a bottle of Barbera and a bowl of homemade pasta and they'll thank you.

Vieste isn't a destination wine list, but it's a genuinely honest one — a small, region-focused selection that actually matches the food and the room. Send a friend here if they're curious about Southern Italian grapes and tired of the same ten wines on every Newport menu.

Downtown / Bannister's Wharf Area · Newport · New American small plates with Mediterranean and raw bar focus
Stoneacre Garden punches above its weight for a patio bar on the Newport waterfront — it's not a destination wine list, but it's a thoughtful one built around the food, and that's rarer than it should be. If you're here for oysters and small plates, you'll drink well without overthinking it.

The Lobster Bar isn't a wine destination, but it's a perfectly competent list for what the restaurant is — a casual waterfront spot where the lobster is the star. Order the Sancerre, eat the oysters, watch the boats.

The Reef isn't trying to be a wine destination and it doesn't pretend to be one — it's a lively harborfront spot with a serviceable, crowd-pleasing list that gets the job done alongside great seafood and better views. Send your friends here for the lobster roll and a glass of rosé, not for a Burgundy deep-dive.

Hill & Hollow puts real effort into its kitchen, and the wine list simply doesn't match. Until the beverage program gets the same attention as the farm sourcing, stick to one glass and move on.

Crafted is the kind of wine list that rewards curious drinkers who want to explore the region they're sitting in, not just order something familiar. It's small, it's local, and it's built with care — send a friend here and tell them to skip the Champagne.
