Walking into Barndiva, the wine list reads like a love letter to Sonoma County — and honestly, it should. You're sitting twenty minutes from some of the best Pinot and Zin vineyards in the country, and the list leans hard into that geography. It's focused, confident, and doesn't pretend to be something it's not.
The backbone here is exactly what you'd expect from a Healdsburg destination restaurant: Russian River Valley Chardonnay, Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel, and Sonoma County Pinot Noir anchor the list with genuine depth and multiple labels to choose from. Alexander Valley shows up too, rounding out the local geography nicely. European selections — Burgundy, Rhône, and Northern Italy — add some range at the higher end of the bottle list without overwhelming the California focus. The list clocks in around 60-70 labels, which is tight enough to feel curated but not so slim it feels lazy.
The BTG board runs 8-12 options and pulls from the same Sonoma-centric playbook as the bottle list — local Pinot, Russian River Chardonnay, and at least one Zinfandel in regular rotation. Prices run $14-$24 a glass, which is standard for the market but starts to sting if you're ordering a second round. No obvious weekly rotation or special BTG program to speak of.
Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel — $60-$75 (bottle)
Dry Creek Zinfandel is Barndiva's sweet spot — you're practically in the valley, the list prioritizes it, and bottles land at a reasonable entry point relative to what these wines command at retail. Order this before anything else.
Grower Champagne (non-mass-market label)
Most tables at a California farm-to-table spot aren't reaching for Champagne, but Barndiva stocks grower and mid-tier house bottles that punch above their price class. It's not Moët — which is exactly the point.
Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (cellar selections)
The Napa bottles that sneak into the cellar photos are the list's weak link on value — you're paying a Healdsburg restaurant markup on top of an already inflated Napa price tag. Save those dollars for a tasting room visit down the road.
Russian River Valley Chardonnay + Roasted Mt Lassen Trout
A Russian River Chardonnay — typically rich enough to hold its own but with enough acid to cut through — is exactly what you want next to a roasted trout. The fish has weight; the wine has structure. It's a no-brainer on a list that was practically built for this moment.

Barndiva is doing the right things: a sommelier on staff, proper storage, and a list that genuinely reflects where it lives. The markups keep it from being a steal, but if you're in Healdsburg for a special dinner and want to drink local without thinking too hard, this is your room.

Hazel Hill is legitimately one of the better resort wine programs in California wine country — deep list, proper staff, and a setting that earns the splurge. The markups are real and the vibe is unabashedly luxe, but if you're already in Healdsburg, this is worth the stop.

Valette Wines at The Matheson is a single-producer wine bar that actually justifies the concept — the sourcing is legit, the prices are fair, and the Healdsburg plaza setting makes it an easy yes for a pre-dinner glass or two. Don't come expecting range; come expecting quality.
