Thirteen bottles, thirteen glasses — Bar 12 keeps it simple and doesn't apologize for it. The list is tight enough to read in under two minutes, which is either reassuring or deflating depending on what you were hoping for. Prices land in a range that won't make you wince, which counts for a lot in a tourist-heavy coastal town.
The list hits the major commercial checkpoints — two Cabs, a Pinot Noir, a red blend, a Tempranillo on the red side, and Grüner Veltliner, Sauvignon Blanc, two Chardonnays, and a Pinot Grigio on the white side — with a rosé, a Prosecco, and a Cava rounding things out. The Alois Lageder Pinot Grigio 'Terra Alpina' and the Count Károlyi Grüner Veltliner are the most interesting choices here, both a step above the crowd-pleaser baseline. The Willamette Valley Vineyards Pinot Noir 'Whole Cluster' adds a touch of Oregon credibility to an otherwise accessible red selection. There are no real regional surprises or deep cuts — this is a list built to satisfy, not to challenge.
Everything on the list is available by the glass, which is the right call for a wine bar format — no awkward bottle-only situations when you just want two pours and a plate. Glass prices run $12–$16, which is honest for Newport, where wine lists at comparable spots can push considerably higher. Rotation doesn't appear to be a feature here; what's on the menu is what's on the menu.
The Bottom Line
Bar 12 is a well-priced, no-drama wine stop in a city where wine lists can get away with being lazy and expensive. The selection is commercial and safe, but the Grüner and the Willamette Pinot Noir show someone made at least a couple of interesting calls. If you want a solid glass without a markup headache, it delivers — just don't come looking for discovery.

Flo's is a genuine New England institution for fried clams and clam cakes, and we'd happily eat there any day of the week. But the wine program is essentially non-existent — two options, one of them a mystery, and one of them a Champagne marked up 100%. Order the ice cold beer instead; it's literally on the menu as the drink of choice, and they're not wrong.

Greenvale Vineyards is a legitimate reason to detour off Bellevue Avenue. The estate list is small but not lazy — the Ramato alone earns the visit — and at $25 to $40 a bottle, you're paying tasting room prices, not restaurant markups. If you're spending a day in Newport, this is where you buy a bottle for the waterfront, not where you linger over a three-course dinner.
