The wine list at TaCo. Cantina fits on a cocktail napkin — four bottles, four pours, done. This is a tequila and mezcal joint first, and the wine program knows its place in that pecking order. But here's the thing: one of those four wines is from Mexico, and that alone makes us lean forward.
Four labels covering California, Spain, and Mexico is not a wine program — it's a suggestion. You get a California Cab, a California Sauvignon Blanc, a Spanish Brut Rosé from Segura Viudas, and the wildcard: a Casa Magoni Chardonnay from Baja California's Valle de Guadalupe. That last one is the only reason we're not issuing a Lazy List badge here. Casa Magoni is a legitimate Baja producer making wines that most people in the U.S. have never heard of, and finding it on a ski town taco joint's list is genuinely surprising. The rest of the list is placeholder wine — the kind of bottles that exist so the menu doesn't look completely empty.
All four bottles are available by the glass, priced between $14 and $15. There's no rotation, no seasonal swap, no half-price night — what you see is what you get, every night. At these prices and in this setting, that's fine; just don't show up expecting options.
Segura Viudas Brut Rosé — $14
Segura Viudas is a reliable Cava house that consistently overdelivers for the price. At $14 a glass in a mountain resort town, this sparkling rosé is the sharpest buy on the list — and it's more fun than the California still wines flanking it.
Casa Magoni Chardonnay
Most people will reach for the California Sauv Blanc on autopilot. Don't. Casa Magoni is one of the standout producers in Baja's Valle de Guadalupe, a wine region that deserves way more attention than it gets. Ordering this at a Tahoe taco spot feels borderline subversive, and that's exactly why you should.
Cabernet Sauvignon
A generic California Cab on a taco menu is the wine equivalent of ordering a Bud Light at a craft brewery. Nothing wrong with it, but you're not here for this, and neither is the food.
Casa Magoni Chardonnay + Quesabirria-style tacos
The richness of braised birria beef and melted cheese needs something with enough body to hold up but enough brightness to cut through the fat. A Baja Chardonnay — which tends to lean more textural than fruit-bomby — does that job better than anything else on this list, and keeping it in the Mexican family feels right.
🎲 The Bottom Line
We wouldn't send a friend to TaCo. Cantina for the wine list — but we'd tell them to order the Casa Magoni Chardonnay while they work through a plate of birria tacos and figure out which mezcal to order next. That's the move here.

The Cork & More is the kind of place that shouldn't work as well as it does — a wine shop and deli hybrid in a tourist ski town charging near-retail prices. We'd absolutely send a friend here, especially one who's been burned by $80 Napa Cabs at resort restaurants one too many times.

Maggie's isn't going to make a wine person drive up from the Bay Area, but for a ski-base hotel restaurant it punches well above its weight — fair markups, considered pours, and a list that treats guests like adults. If you're already at Heavenly Village, you're in good hands.

Jimmy's is a dependable resort wine list with some genuine bright spots — just don't expect adventurous pricing or a staff member who can walk you through the Ornellaia. If you're in South Lake Tahoe and want a proper glass of something good with a fire crackling and the lake out the window, you could do a lot worse.

Evan's is the right place for a proper Tahoe date night, and the wine list won't let you down — as long as you go in knowing it's built for comfort, not discovery. Stick to the Kistler or Flowers and you'll drink well; chase the obvious names and you'll overpay for the privilege.

My Thai is a genuine Wild Card — a family Thai joint that somehow assembled a Napa Cab-heavy wine list with real bottles on it, even if the pairing logic is questionable and the markups climb fast. Come for the green curry, order the Santadi, and marvel at the fact that Heitz Trailside exists on this menu at all.
