You're at a hotel restaurant in South Lake Tahoe, fresh off the gondola, boots still damp — and the wine list matches the energy: unpretentious, approachable, no surprises. Fourteen labels, all available by the glass, which at least means nobody's twisting your arm into a full bottle of something you're not sure about. This isn't a destination for wine lovers, but it's not trying to be.
The list skims across California, Italy, France, Washington, and Argentina without going deep on any of them. You've got Sonoma-Cutrer Chardonnay representing the high-water mark of the white side, which is genuinely a solid pour, and La Grivelière Côtes du Rhône doing honest work on the red side. The rest leans heavily on recognizable brand names — Kendall-Jackson, Prophecy, Greg Norman — the kind of wines you'd find at a grocery store wine aisle, not a cellar. Caparzo Sangiovese and Giulio Straccali Chianti add a bit of Italian texture, but this is fundamentally a comfort list built for tired skiers, not curious drinkers.
All 14 bottles are available by the glass, which is genuinely the right call for a resort lounge where tables turn fast and nobody wants commitment. Pours run $11–$14, which is reasonable for a Lake Tahoe property where restaurants routinely charge resort-premium on everything. The Kung Fu Girl Riesling at this price point is a quiet win.
Sonoma-Cutrer Chardonnay, Russian River Valley — $14/glass
Russian River Chard from Sonoma-Cutrer at $14 a glass in a resort hotel is genuinely fair — this bottle retails around $20-25 and the markup here is restrained by local standards. It's the best wine on the list and priced like they know it.
Kung Fu Girl Riesling, Washington
Everyone walks past the Riesling and orders another Chardonnay. Don't. Kung Fu Girl from Charles Smith is crisp, slightly off-dry, and cuts right through après-ski hunger in a way that Kendall-Jackson simply cannot. It's the most interesting white on the list and almost nobody orders it.
Greg Norman Cabernet Sauvignon, California
Celebrity wine with a golf theme. The bottle costs less than $15 retail and it's the kind of Cab that exists to fill a checkbox on a hotel wine list. There's no reason to order it when La Grivelière Côtes du Rhône is sitting right there doing more interesting things for similar money.
La Grivelière Côtes du Rhône, France + Burger
A Grenache-forward Côtes du Rhône has the fruit and structure to stand up to a burger without overwhelming it — and it's the kind of easy-drinking red that works whether you're on your first glass after skiing or your third. It's the most food-friendly red on the list for casual American fare.

ECHO's wine program is exactly what a hotel lounge in a ski town should be: fair prices, nothing offensive, nothing exciting. If you're here for the mountain, this list won't get in the way — and that's honestly enough.

The Cork & More is the kind of place that shouldn't work as well as it does — a wine shop and deli hybrid in a tourist ski town charging near-retail prices. We'd absolutely send a friend here, especially one who's been burned by $80 Napa Cabs at resort restaurants one too many times.

Maggie's isn't going to make a wine person drive up from the Bay Area, but for a ski-base hotel restaurant it punches well above its weight — fair markups, considered pours, and a list that treats guests like adults. If you're already at Heavenly Village, you're in good hands.

Jimmy's is a dependable resort wine list with some genuine bright spots — just don't expect adventurous pricing or a staff member who can walk you through the Ornellaia. If you're in South Lake Tahoe and want a proper glass of something good with a fire crackling and the lake out the window, you could do a lot worse.

Evan's is the right place for a proper Tahoe date night, and the wine list won't let you down — as long as you go in knowing it's built for comfort, not discovery. Stick to the Kistler or Flowers and you'll drink well; chase the obvious names and you'll overpay for the privilege.

My Thai is a genuine Wild Card — a family Thai joint that somehow assembled a Napa Cab-heavy wine list with real bottles on it, even if the pairing logic is questionable and the markups climb fast. Come for the green curry, order the Santadi, and marvel at the fact that Heitz Trailside exists on this menu at all.

We wouldn't send a friend to TaCo. Cantina for the wine list — but we'd tell them to order the Casa Magoni Chardonnay while they work through a plate of birria tacos and figure out which mezcal to order next. That's the move here.
