The wine list at Saltine is exactly what you'd expect from a lively oyster bar in Jackson — short, safe, and built for the person who wants something cold and wet without overthinking it. Fourteen bottles, thirteen of them available by the glass, which is actually a smart move for a seafood spot where people are ordering rounds of oysters and splitting apps. Nothing here is going to make a wine nerd's heart race, but nothing is going to embarrass you either.
California dominates the list, with the usual suspects — Story Point Cab, J. Lohr Chard, Velvet Devil Merlot — filling out the roster like a grocery store endcap. The standouts are the two wines that actually have a reason to be here: Dr. Loosen Riesling from Germany and King's Ridge Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley, both of which are legitimate picks that work with the food. The Matua Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough rounds out a small but functional white selection. There are real gaps — no bubbles, no real oyster-friendly Muscadet or Chablis, nothing that screams 'we thought hard about matching wine to seafood.'
Thirteen of the fourteen bottles are available by the glass, priced $9–$15, which gives you plenty of flexibility on a shared seafood spread. The range runs $9 for house-level pours up to $15 for the King's Ridge Pinot Noir — reasonable for Jackson. Happy hour runs daily 4–6pm with $2 off house wine, so get there early if you're doing oysters before dinner.
Matua Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand — $11/glass
Matua is a reliable, crisp SB from one of New Zealand's best-known Sauvignon Blanc regions. At $11 a glass next to a dozen Gulf oysters, this is the most honest wine transaction on the menu. Bright acidity, a little citrus bite — it does exactly what you need it to do.
Dr. Loosen Riesling, Germany
Most people at a Southern seafood spot are reaching for the Chardonnay or the rosé without a second thought. Dr. Loosen's Riesling — from one of the Mosel's most respected producers — is a genuine outlier on this list. The off-dry profile and high acidity cut right through fried catfish or chargrilled oysters with hot sauce. It's the wine that actually belongs here most, and almost nobody orders it.
Story Point Cabernet Sauvignon, California
A $46 Cab at a raw bar is a commitment to fighting your food. Story Point is a perfectly forgettable Central Coast Cab that has no business being the go-to choice when you're eating Gulf oysters and shrimp. Save it for a steakhouse.
Dr. Loosen Riesling, Germany + Fresh Gulf oysters (raw)
Riesling and raw oysters is one of the great underrated combos in food and wine — the high acidity mimics a squeeze of lemon, the slight residual sweetness plays off the briny salinity of the shell, and the whole thing is over in one clean sip. Dr. Loosen is exactly the right producer to make this point.

Saltine is a great seafood spot with a wine list that's doing just enough to stay out of trouble. Order the Dr. Loosen, get there for happy hour, and don't stress the rest — this place is really about the oysters anyway.
