Wingman Metrics
Walking into Heritage, you expect the wine list to be an afterthought — all farmhouse aesthetic and smoked meats, wine as decoration. Then you clock a Grüner Veltliner, a Loire Chenin Blanc, and an orange Chardonnay from Argentina all sharing the same 13-bottle list and realize someone here is actually paying attention. It's a short list, but it has opinions.
Thirteen labels covering Italy, Austria, New Zealand, Spain, France, California, Oregon, and Argentina is genuinely impressive for a Route 9 farm-to-table spot in Poughkeepsie. The whites do the heavy lifting — Gustav's Grüner, the Topette Chenin Blanc from the Loire, and Nisia's Old Vines Verdejo from Rueda 2016 show real range and curiosity. Reds are thinner: you get a Brusco dei Barbi Sangiovese from Montalcino, a Westmount Willamette Pinot Noir, and GunBun Cab, which covers the bases without breaking new ground. The wildcard here is the Santa Julia 'El Zorrito' orange Chardonnay from Mendoza — not something you find on most lists within fifty miles of here.
Every wine on the list is available by the glass, which means all 13 labels pour by the glass at $11–$16 — a setup that rewards exploration without committing to a bottle. The price ceiling of $16 is refreshingly honest for a restaurant at this food price point. Rotation appears static rather than seasonal, but with this much variety baked into the base list, that's a minor complaint.
Chenin Blanc, Topette, Loire, France 2023 — $15
Loire Chenin at this price point by the glass is a genuine steal. Topette is a solid, food-friendly producer and Chenin Blanc is one of the most versatile whites on the planet — bright acidity, a little texture, works with half the menu. Most people will walk past it for the Pinot Grigio and that's a mistake.
Chardonnay (orange), Santa Julia 'El Zorrito', Mendoza, Argentina 2022
An orange Chardonnay from Mendoza on a farm-to-table list in the Hudson Valley — nobody is expecting this. Santa Julia makes approachable natural-leaning wines and 'El Zorrito' brings skin-contact grip and funk without going full barnyard. Order it and watch your table get curious.
Pinot Grigio, Circa, Veneto, Italy 2020
Circa is a perfectly inoffensive Pinot Grigio doing exactly what you'd expect: nothing. With a Grüner Veltliner and a Verdejo Old Vines on the same list at similar prices, there's zero reason to default to this. It's here for the path-of-least-resistance crowd and that crowd deserves better nudging.
Sangiovese, Brusco dei Barbi, Montalcino, Italy 2020 + Smoked meat plate
Brusco dei Barbi is Fattoria dei Barbi's everyday Sangiovese — earthy, cherry-forward, with enough acid and tannin to cut through smoke and fat without getting in the way of the meat. Heritage leans hard into smoked dishes and this is the wine built for exactly that job.
🎲 The Bottom Line
Heritage punches well above its strip-mall expectations with a lean but genuinely thoughtful wine list that sneaks in orange wine, old-vine Verdejo, and Loire Chenin between the Prosecco and the GunBun Cab. If you're in the Hudson Valley and want a low-risk way to drink something interesting by the glass without a big commitment, this list earns the stop.

Olive Garden's wine list is exactly what you'd expect from a national chain that considers breadsticks the main event — functional, safe, and completely unambitious. Come for the pasta, drink the Chianti Classico, and don't expect anything more.
