The wine list at Oliverio's reads like a greatest hits album — Caymus, Silver Oak, Rombauer, The Prisoner. You've seen this lineup before, probably at every upscale Italian spot within a hundred miles. It's safe, it's crowd-tested, and it signals that the kitchen is the real star here.
Thirty-two labels split mostly between California heavyweights and a thin Italian contingent. On the Italy side, the Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino and the Brancaia Ilatraia are genuinely good picks that earn the list some credibility. But the California bloc dominates — Napa Cabs stacked on Napa Cabs, with Paso Robles getting a nod via Austin Hope. Don't come looking for Burgundy, Rhône, Ribera del Duero, or anything that might challenge a WVU football crowd; this list isn't built for adventure.
Seventeen pours by the glass is legitimately generous for a restaurant this size in this market — that's nearly half the list, which gives you real flexibility. The range runs from $10 to $26 a glass, so you can sip the Belle Glos Still Rosé from Russian River Valley without committing to a bottle. That said, don't expect the pours to rotate seasonally; this program has a 'set it and forget it' energy.
William Hill Chardonnay — $11.25/glass
At $11.25 a glass, this is priced almost at retail — a 15% markup is practically giving it away compared to the gouging on other pours. It's not a complex wine, but if you want an easy-drinking Chardonnay without getting fleeced, this is your move.
Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino DOCG
Most tables here are ordering Caymus on autopilot, which means the Banfi Brunello just sits there waiting for someone to notice it. Brunello is one of Italy's great wines — structured, age-worthy, built for red sauce and red meat — and it's completely at home in an Italian ristorante. Order it and feel smarter than the whole room.
Juliette Rosé
A 122% markup lands this at $40 a bottle when you can find it for $18 at retail. Nothing about this wine justifies that price. If you want rosé, grab the Belle Glos Still Rosé from Russian River Valley instead — at least that one has a story worth telling.
Brancaia Ilatraia Red Blend, Tuscany + Baked Lasagna
Ilatraia is a Maremma Tuscany blend — Cabernet Sauvignon-forward with Sangiovese in the mix — that has the structure to hold up against a rich, meat-heavy lasagna without getting buried. It's one of the few wines on this list that actually feels Italian, which seems right.
The Bottom Line
Oliverio's is a reliable date-night spot where the wine list does its job without doing anything remarkable. The glass pour selection is solid, the markups are uneven enough to punish the careless, and the Italian bottles are the ones worth your attention — if you know to ask for them.
