The wine list at New York Prime lands exactly how the room looks — dark, serious, and built for people who order bone-in ribeyes and mean it. At 85 labels, this isn't a library, but it's curated with intention: Napa Cabs dominate, Champagne gets its own real estate, and nothing here feels accidentally added. The price tags, though, are not for the faint of heart.
Napa Valley is clearly the star of the show here, with heavy hitters like Opus One 2022, Joseph Phelps Insignia 2019, Caymus Special Selection 2020, and Hundred Acre Dark Ark Howell Mountain 2022 anchoring the upper tier. There's genuine range beyond California too — Massolino's Serralunga d'Alba Barolo 2021 and Château Calon-Ségur 2010 show someone on staff has a passport. Pinot Noir gets thoughtful treatment with Cristom Mt. Jefferson Cuvee from Eola-Amity Hills and the Belle Glos Dairyman from Russian River, which is a nice step above the usual suspects. The gaps are the gaps you'd expect: virtually no South American or Spanish representation, and the white wine program is thin relative to the reds.
Thirty-two options by the glass is genuinely impressive for a steakhouse, and the range runs from a $12 entry point up to $38 for Silver Oak Alexander Valley — which tells you everything about the room's expectations. You'll find Flowers Chardonnay, Faust and Groth Cabs, and the Maison Ayala Champagne on pour, which are real picks rather than filler. Rotation doesn't appear to be a priority here — the BTG list reads like it's been stable for a while — but the depth of selection softens that critique.
Maison Ayala 'Brut Majeur' Champagne NV — $19/glass or $88/bottle
Ayala is consistently one of the most underrated houses in Champagne and at $88 a bottle in a restaurant at this price point, you're actually not getting gouged. Open with this before the steaks arrive.
Cristom Vineyards 'Mt. Jefferson Cuvee' Pinot Noir, Eola-Amity Hills, OR 2024
In a list dominated by California muscle, this Oregon Pinot from Cristom — one of the Willamette Valley's most quietly excellent producers — is the wine most tables will walk right past. Don't. It's earthy, structured, and actually interesting.
Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut NV
At $155 a bottle, you're paying a significant premium for a label that moves airport units. Step up to the Ayala or save your dollars for a Cab — Veuve at this markup is purely a recognition tax.
Massolino 'Serralunga d'Alba' Barolo 2021 + Bone-in Ribeye
Barolo's firm tannins and high acidity were essentially engineered by nature to cut through fatty, heavily marbled beef. The Massolino from Serralunga is structured and age-worthy — it'll hold its own against anything coming off this grill.
The Bottom Line
New York Prime is a classic steakhouse wine list done competently: deep on Napa Cabs, respectful of Champagne, and priced for an audience that's already committed to spending money. If you're here for a special occasion and someone else is paying, order the Barolo and don't look at the receipt.

Crave punches above its Myrtle Beach zip code on the Italian side of the list, but the markups are beach-town steep and the by-the-glass program needs more ambition. If you're here, dig into the Italian bottles and leave the California brand parade alone.
