Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Abuelo's is exactly four bottles long. Four. You could read the entire thing before the chips and salsa hit the table, and you probably will, because there's not much else to consider here.
Every bottle is from California, and three of the four are Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio, and Chardonnay at the exact same $30 price point, which tells you the list was built for simplicity, not curiosity. Woodbridge Cabernet anchors the cheap end at $9.25 a glass — a grocery store staple that does exactly what it promises and nothing more. Joel Gott 815 Cab is the lone bottle with any real name recognition among casual wine drinkers, and it shows up at $38, which feels like the ceiling someone set and never revisited. There are no Old World options, no Mexican producers, no rosé, no bubbles — nothing that suggests anyone thought about what actually goes with enchiladas.
All four wines are available by the glass, which sounds generous until you realize that's the entire list. At $9.25 a pour, the Woodbridge Cab is the only glass that doesn't make you do uncomfortable math against the bottle price.
Woodbridge Cabernet — $9.25/glass
Look, nobody's winning here, but Woodbridge is at least honest about what it is — a drinkable, no-drama pour that won't make you wince at the bill. It's the move if you want something red without overthinking it.
Archetype Pinot Noir
Archetype is a step above the usual chain-restaurant filler, and at $30 a bottle it's the most interesting wine on a very uninteresting list. Most people reaching for red here will default to the Cab — skip it and grab this instead.
Joel Gott 815 Cabernet Sauvignon
Joel Gott 815 retails for around $12-14 a bottle, and at $38 here you're paying a 3x markup on a wine you can grab at any grocery store on the way home. It's not bad wine — it's a bad deal.
Sea Glass Pinot Grigio + Chicken Fajitas
The light citrus and apple notes in the Sea Glass Pinot Grigio cut through the char and spice of fajitas without fighting the food. It's not a complex pairing, but it's the cleanest match on a list that doesn't give you many options.
❌ The Bottom Line
Abuelo's wine program is an afterthought dressed up as a wine list — four California bottles, grocery-store-level selection, and markups that don't reward curiosity. Order a margarita and don't look back.
Arcadian Shores / Restaurant Row · Myrtle Beach · Italian
Crave punches above its Myrtle Beach zip code on the Italian side of the list, but the markups are beach-town steep and the by-the-glass program needs more ambition. If you're here, dig into the Italian bottles and leave the California brand parade alone.

Rioz is a genuinely fun place to eat — the meat service is relentless and the energy is high — but the wine program is an afterthought in a room that deserves better. Order the Malbec, enjoy the picanha, and don't come here expecting anything from the wine list.

Boardwalk Billy's is a fun spot to eat and drink a cold beer on the water — lean into that. The wine list is an afterthought stocked with recognizable labels that require zero effort from anyone involved, and the markup doesn't justify the selection. Order a cocktail or a local draft and save the wine night for somewhere that cares.

Drunken Jack's isn't a wine destination — it's a great seafood spot on a beautiful stretch of South Carolina coast that happens to have a wine list that won't embarrass itself. Order the Macon-Villages or Pine Ridge blend, watch the marsh at sunset, and stop overthinking it.

Wicked Tuna's wine list is a reliable, unfussy companion to a genuinely fun waterfront dining experience — it won't wow anyone, but it won't let anyone down either. Come for the sushi, the sunset, and the $2-off happy hour pours; just don't come expecting to geek out over the cellar.

Wicked Tuna is a great place to watch the sun drop into the Atlantic with something cold in your hand — just don't expect the wine list to match the view. It's a reliable, uninspired pour with a beautiful backdrop, and sometimes that's exactly what you need.

Tequila's is a solid neighborhood Mexican spot that simply doesn't care about wine, and that's fine — the margaritas are probably doing heavy lifting anyway. Come for the tacos, skip the wine list, and don't let the four Sutter Home options talk you out of a good time.

Come to Taqueria El Mexicano for the tacos — they're the whole point. The wine list is an afterthought, and that's fine, just don't make it the reason you show up.

Mezcalito's isn't a wine destination, but its list punches above its weight on value and has just enough Spanish character to make it interesting. If you're here for tacos, order the Rioja and don't look back.
