Wingman Metrics
You walk into a retro service-station-themed neighborhood joint in Belhaven, expect some house red and maybe a Malbec, and then the wine list shows up with Kosta Browne and Quilceda Creek on it. It's disorienting in the best way. This is not the wine list this room was built for โ and that's exactly what makes it interesting.
Seventy-nine labels for a casual burger spot is genuinely ambitious. The list leans hard into California โ Napa Chardonnays, Sonoma Pinots, Ridge, Biale, PlumpJack โ with solid Pacific Northwest representation via Beaux Freres and Quilceda Creek, and a handful of French and Italian bottles rounding things out. There are no real deep-cut Old World selections or natural wine detours, but for Jackson, Mississippi, this list punches well above its zip code. The ceiling is very high (that Quilceda Creek Palengat at $325 is not a joke bottle), but the floor is accessible enough that casual drinkers won't feel stranded.
Ten by-the-glass options at $9โ$14 is a workable spread for a neighborhood spot at this price point. The Planet Oregon Pinot Noir at $14 a glass is the most interesting pour on the BTG list and gives you something worth thinking about with your fried chicken. The $9 entry-level pours like the Rhiannon Red Blend exist for the crowd that just wants something red with their burger, and that's fine.
Planet Oregon Pinot Noir โ $55/bottle
At $55, this is the sweet spot on the list โ approachable Oregon Pinot that delivers way more than your average casual-restaurant bottle, and at $14 a glass you can try it before you commit to the full pour.
Biale Black Chicken Zinfandel, Napa
Most people order Pinot or Chardonnay and never look at it, but Biale is a cult Napa Zinfandel producer that serious wine people get excited about. At a burger joint, it's an absurdly fun bottle to crack with something off the grill.
Veuve Clicquot Champagne
Veuve Clicquot retails around $60โ65, which makes $165 here a steep pour even by restaurant standards. The markup is hard to justify when you're eating a patty melt. Save the Champagne budget for somewhere that'll put it in a proper flute and give it the moment it deserves.
Ridge Lytton Springs Blend, CA + Chicken-fried steak
Ridge Lytton Springs is a Zinfandel-dominant blend with enough structure and dark fruit to stand up to the richness of a chicken-fried steak without steamrolling the dish. It's a California classic meeting a Southern classic โ both bold, both unapologetically themselves.
๐ฒ The Bottom Line
Lou's Full-Serv is a Wild Card in the truest sense: a gas station-themed comfort food spot in Belhaven that somehow stocks Kosta Browne and Beaux Freres. The markups on the trophy bottles are real, but if you find the right mid-tier pick, you're drinking better wine than most Jackson restaurants will ever offer you.
The District at Eastover ยท Jackson ยท Mexican
Sombra's wine list isn't going to win any awards, but the Wine Wednesday half-price promotion turns an ordinary Tuesday-level list into a legitimately fun Wednesday-night move. Come for the tacos, stay for the deal.

Shapley's is the best wine list in the Jackson metro area by a comfortable margin โ 180 labels with genuine ambition, even if the markups lean toward the steakhouse standard of 'you're paying for the room.' If you're eating prime beef in Mississippi and you care about what's in your glass, this is where you come.
