Eighty-one labels sounds like a serious list until you open it and realize you've seen this exact wine program at every steakhouse from Phoenix to Pittsburgh. The Chardonnay section alone could staff a Rombauer fan convention. It's not bad — it's just aggressively predictable.
Jake's leans hard into California Chardonnay, offering a deep bench that runs from Frei Brothers and Sean Minor on the approachable end up through Cakebread, Frank Family, and Chateau Montelena at the top. There's a welcome nod to Burgundy with Servin Chablis and the Bouchard Pouilly-Fuissé, and Louis Latour Ardèche sneaks in as the budget Burgundy option. Servin Chablis
Servin is a solid Chablis producer and this is the kind of lean, saline white that most steakhouse crowds completely ignore. If you're eating seafood apps or just want something with actual acidity and backbone instead of oak-forward butter bombs, this is your move.
Rombauer Vineyards Chardonnay
Look, Rombauer is fine. But it's also the most marked-up, most ordered, and most predictable bottle at every steakhouse in America. You're paying a premium for brand recognition at this point, and in Montana that markup stings even more. There are better Chardonnays on this very list.
Chateau Montelena Chardonnay + Filet Mignon
Montelena's Chardonnay is restrained by California standards — more tension and less tropical fruit than most of its neighbors on this list. That balance makes it one of the few whites here that can actually hold its own against a butter-basted filet without getting steamrolled.

Jake's is doing exactly what a Billings steakhouse is supposed to do with wine — safe choices, name brands, and a Champagne section that lets people feel fancy. If you want adventure, you're in the wrong place; if you want a reliable glass of something Californian to go with your ribeye, you'll leave satisfied.
