You walk into what looks like a neighborhood bar and the wine list hits you like a left hook — Arnaud Lambert next to Patricia Green next to a Tuscan Sangiovese you've never heard of. This is not the list of a place that ordered wine out of a Sysco catalog. Someone here actually cares, and they want you to drink something interesting.
The list punches well above its weight for a casual bar setting in a mid-size Oregon town. Willamette Valley gets its due — Martin Woods, Patricia Green, Teutonic, and Résonance all show up — but the list doesn't stop at the state line. Loire Valley representation via Arnaud Lambert's Crémant and Chenin-Chardonnay blend sits alongside Granbazán Albariño from Rías Baixas and Sesti's Sangiovese Monteleccio from Tuscany. The Gargantua Syrah 'Pantagruel' feels like a deliberate curveball — and we mean that as a compliment. Gaps exist; there's no deep Burgundy or Rhône bench to speak of, but that's forgivable when the Oregon and import picks are this intentional.
Nine pours by the glass is a solid number for a bar program, and the spread mirrors the eclecticism of the full list. You're not stuck choosing between a forgettable Pinot Gris and a forgettable Pinot Noir — Corollary's Sparkling Rosé 'Cuvée One' and Teutonic's Pinot Gris 'Crow Valley' suggest the glass program was built with the same care as the bottle list. Rotation cadence is unclear, but the range on offer at any given time makes it worth asking what's new.
Granbazán Albariño 'Etiqueta Verde' — null
Granbazán is one of the benchmark Rías Baixas producers and the Etiqueta Verde is their workhorse bottling — consistently overdelivers for what it costs. On a list in downtown McMinnville, finding this at a fair markup is a small miracle. Order it.
Gargantua Syrah 'Pantagruel'
Most people at a wine bar in Oregon are here for Pinot, and they're going to order Pinot. That means the Gargantua Syrah 'Pantagruel' gets ignored, which is exactly why you should order it. The name alone signals that whoever chose this has a personality, and the wine backs it up.
Résonance Chardonnay
Résonance is a fine Willamette producer but the Chardonnay is probably the most expected, most widely distributed bottle on this list. With this much interesting stuff around it, ordering the safest pick feels like a waste of the list's ambition.
Arnaud Lambert Crémant + Bar snacks / small plates
We don't have the full food menu, but a Loire Crémant with whatever bar snacks or small plates Humble Spirit is running is a no-brainer — the bubbles cut through richness, the price won't sting, and it sets a tone for the evening that a glass of still Pinot just can't match.

Humble Spirit is the kind of place that makes you annoyed you don't live in McMinnville — a real neighborhood bar with a wine list that would embarrass half the dedicated wine bars in Portland. If you're passing through wine country, this is a mandatory stop.
