Wingman Metrics
Walk into Magnolia House and the wine list feels exactly like the room — polished, Southern-adjacent, and playing it safe. It's casino dining, so you expect a certain amount of name-brand comfort, and that's exactly what you get. No surprises, no risks, just familiar labels in a handsome setting.
The list runs 50–80 bottles deep and leans heavily on California and Pacific Northwest workhorses that any American diner would recognize on sight. Jordan, Duckhorn, Rombauer — these aren't bad wines, but they're also the kind of selections that haven't changed since 2015 at restaurants like this. There's a nod to France somewhere in the mix, but this isn't a list that's going to make a Burgundy lover's pulse quicken. If you came here hoping for a producer you'd never heard of, keep walking.
The by-the-glass program clocks in somewhere between 10 and 16 options, which is respectable for a casino dining room. You'll find the usuals — Rombauer Chardonnay almost certainly anchors the whites, Kim Crawford holds down the Sauvignon Blanc slot. Rotation appears to be minimal; this reads like a "set it and forget it" program rather than anything with seasonal intention.
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc — null
We don't have exact by-the-glass pricing, but Kim Crawford is one of the most fairly priced bottles in this tier of restaurant, and it actually delivers — bright, citrusy, and a natural fit with the Gulf seafood on the menu. When everything else on the list is marked up for the casino floor, this is your safest bet for not feeling robbed.
Duckhorn Merlot
Most people sleeping on Merlot in 2024 are doing themselves a disservice, and Duckhorn is one of the producers that never stopped caring about the grape. In a list full of Cabs, this is the more nuanced, food-friendly pick that most tables will walk right past.
Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon
Jordan is a perfectly fine wine, but it's also one of the most aggressively marked-up bottles in casino and hotel dining nationwide. You're paying a significant premium for the name recognition here, and the juice just doesn't justify the casino markup on top of an already premium retail price.
Rombauer Chardonnay + Shrimp and Grits
Rombauer's buttery, oak-forward Chardonnay was practically engineered for rich, creamy Southern dishes. The fat in the grits and the sweetness of Gulf shrimp play right into the wine's vanilla and stone fruit notes — it's the most crowd-pleasing move on the list, and for once that's not a criticism.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Magnolia House isn't trying to be a wine destination, and with Kelly English's Southern cooking as the real draw, you can forgive a lot. Stick to the by-the-glass program, lean on the seafood-friendly whites, and don't expect your markup to be treated with any particular mercy.
Downtown Gulfport · Gulfport · Steakhouse
The Rack House wine list is exactly what a Gulf Coast steakhouse should be — unpretentious, fairly priced, and wide enough by the glass that you don't feel cornered. We'd send a friend here without hesitation, just with the note to skip the Moscato and go straight for the Ste. Michelle.

Island View Casino · Gulfport · Bar
This is not a destination for wine drinkers — it's a slot machine bar that happens to stock one bubbly. Come for the Sunday bottle deal at Carter Green Steakhouse next door, not for anything happening at the bar itself.

Island View Casino · Gulfport · Seafood / Raw Bar
The food concept is solid, but the wine program is an afterthought in a place that should know better — oysters are practically begging for a decent Muscadet or even a crisp rosé, and the kitchen deserves backup. Come for the shellfish, drink the bubbles on Sunday, and lower your expectations below sea level.

This is not a wine destination — it's a place to sleep near the highway that happens to have wine on the menu because it's legally a full-service hotel. Order a beer, or head somewhere else entirely.

This is a wine list for people who need wine with dinner and aren't interested in making it a thing — and it delivers exactly that without embarrassing anyone. If wine is important to your night, eat somewhere else; if you just want a glass of something recognizable while you watch the Gulf, you'll be fine.

Gulfport Beachfront / Highway 90 · Gulfport · Hotel Bistro
This is a wine list that exists because the hotel is required to have one. If you're sleeping here, grab a glass of the Clean Slate Riesling and call it a night — but don't make a trip to the Courtyard Bistro for the wine program.

Wisteria is a dependable red wine destination — especially if Pinot Noir is your thing — but the list plays it too safe to excite, and markups keep it from being a true value play. Send a friend here knowing they'll drink well, just don't expect to be surprised.

Soby's has one of the most legitimately impressive wine programs in the entire Southeast, and the fact that it's anchored in Greenville rather than a major metro makes it worth a detour on its own. If you're anywhere near South Carolina and you care about wine, you owe yourself a seat at this table.
