Wingman Metrics
Walk into a brewery and expect the wine list to be an afterthought — a couple of Cabs, maybe a Pinot Grigio, all from brands you've seen at the airport. Good Word didn't do that. Fourteen labels covering France, Portugal, Germany, New Zealand, Oregon, Spain, Argentina, Chile, Italy, and California tells you someone here was paying attention.
For a brewing-focused pub, this list punches above its weight. The whites show genuine range: a Languedoc Chardonnay from Moulin de Gassac, a Vinho Verde from Pavao, The Seeker Riesling from Mosel, and Villa Maria Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand cover a lot of stylistic ground in four bottles. The reds lean on reliable value regions — Rioja, Mendoza, Maipo Valley, Maipo Pinot from California — without defaulting entirely to Napa or Australian Shiraz. The sparkling section is a pleasant surprise, with Scarpetta Prosecco, two Cavas (Cune Brut and Naveran Brut Rosé), and a Tuscan rosato from Donna Laura rounding things out. The list is short, yes, but almost every slot feels earned.
Pricing and pour breakdown aren't published on the website, so we can't confirm which bottles are available by the glass or at what price. Given the list size and gastropub format, it's reasonable to expect most or all are available by the glass — but we won't guess. Worth asking your server directly when you sit down.
The Bottom Line
Good Word is a brewery that built a wine list with actual intention, and that's rarer than it should be. We can't speak to pricing or glass pours without more data, but the selection itself — Vinho Verde, Mosel Riesling, Languedoc Chardonnay, Argentine blends, two Cavas — is the work of someone who wanted wine drinkers to feel welcome at a beer place. If you're the wine person in a beer-drinking group, Good Word has you covered.

The 1818 Club's wine program is a catering checklist, not a considered list — eight unlabeled varietal names do not constitute a wine program at a fine dining venue. If you're attending an event here, manage expectations accordingly and hope the host bar tier is generous. We wouldn't choose this venue for the wine.

Kurt's Euro Bistro punches above its weight in the Duluth dining scene — not because the list is long, but because someone clearly cared enough to put three Trimbach selections and two Dow's Tawny Ports on a 22-bottle card. The Alsace focus gives it a genuine identity, and fair bottle pricing means you won't feel punished for ordering well. If you're in the area and want an honest glass of European white with your coq au vin, this is your spot.

Lake Superior Brewing has no business having a wine list this interesting, and we mean that as a full compliment. If you're in Duluth and you want to drink wine somewhere that actually thought about it, this brewpub is the surprising answer.

This is a cocktail bar that slipped a legitimately interesting nine-bottle wine list into the corner without making a big deal about it — and we respect the quiet confidence. Don't come here for a deep cellar experience, but do come here knowing you have real options beyond the well liquor.

Va Bene is presumably doing something right in the kitchen, but the wine list is a two-item afterthought that tells you this place doesn't take wine seriously. Order a glass, enjoy your pasta, and don't expect anything more.

Midi is doing more with 38 labels than most hotel restaurants do with 80. The aromatic white selection alone makes it worth a serious look, and the pricing won't leave you feeling robbed on the way out.

The Olde Blind Dog is a pub first and a wine destination never — but it's put together a 20-bottle list that's functional and occasionally surprising, which is more than most places with shamrocks on the sign bother to do. If you're here for a pint, stay for a pint. If a friend insists on wine, steer them toward the Neyers or the Stags Leap and call it a win.

The Family Dog prices its wine reasonably, and credit where it's due — $8–$9 a glass is honest money. But five unnamed, producer-free varietals is not a wine program; it's an afterthought. If you're here for the pub experience, lean into a beer and come back to wine somewhere that actually cares.

Edgar's Proof & Provision isn't trying to be a wine destination and it doesn't pretend to be — the list is short, familiar, and priced fairly for what it is. If you're here with a group that can't agree on anything, the fact that every bottle is available by the glass saves the night. Send a friend here for beer or cocktails; if they end up with a Felino Malbec or a Sea Sun Pinot Noir, they won't be unhappy.
