You don't expect to sit down at a Creole-inflected French bistro in downtown Calistoga and find a wine list that actually makes you think. Evangeline keeps it tight — 12 labels, 12 by the glass — but whoever curated this thing cared enough to look beyond the obvious Napa Cab route. That alone earns some attention.
The list punches well above its size. You've got Alsatian crémant, a Vouvray from Domaine S. Goudran, and a Côtes du Rhône from Domaine Janasse sitting alongside local picks like Venge Cab from right down the road in Calistoga and Tedeschi Pinot from Russian River Valley. Old World and California share the room without fighting, which is harder to pull off than it sounds. The Sancerre from La Pléiade adds a serious anchor to the white side. The only real gap is depth — if you want to go exploring, you'll run out of road fast.
All 12 labels pour by the glass, which is a genuinely smart move for a casual bistro format — you can build your own flight through the whole list without committing to a bottle. Prices run $13–$23, which is reasonable for Napa Valley without being a bargain bin. The range covers sparkling, white, rosé, and red, so there's no excuse to be bored.
Domaine Janasse Grenache Blend Côtes du Rhône 2020 — $16
Janasse is a seriously respected Châteauneuf producer — their Côtes du Rhône is a side-door into that house's quality at a fraction of the price. If it's pouring anywhere near $16, that's a minor steal.
Domaine S. Goudran Chenin Blanc Vouvray 2024
Most tables at a place like this will reach for the Rombauer or the rosé without a second thought. The Vouvray is the sleeper — Chenin Blanc from a solid Loire producer has texture, tension, and longevity that none of the California whites here can match. Order it and feel smug about it.
Rombauer Chardonnay Napa 2023
At $21 a glass, Rombauer is doing exactly what Rombauer always does — riding brand recognition to the top of the markup chart. It's a fine wine if you love a buttery, high-octane California Chard, but in a list this short, that $21 is better spent on something you can't get at every airport restaurant in the country.
Comtes de Ribeauville Crémant d'Alsace + Croque Madame
Bubbles cut through the richness of the béchamel and runny yolk like they were born for it. Alsatian crémant in particular has enough body to hold up to the ham and cheese without overwhelming the dish — this is the move before noon or after.
🎲 The Bottom Line
Evangeline isn't a wine destination, but it's a genuinely good wine list wearing a bistro apron — thoughtfully built, fairly priced, and interesting enough that you'll want to linger through a second glass. If you're passing through Calistoga and tired of temples to Napa Cab, this patio and this list are worth a stop.

Castello di Amorosa is unabashedly a destination experience, and the wine list reflects that: captive audience, estate-only pours, pricing that leans on the setting as much as the wine. But the Italian-varietal focus is genuinely interesting, the courtyard is a legitimately great place to drink, and if you're already on Highway 29, there are worse ways to spend an afternoon.

TRUSS is a resort wine list that actually tries, and in this category that's rarer than it sounds — the Coravin program alone is worth the visit if you care about drinking icons by the ounce. The markups are real and the bill will remind you where you are, but the depth and curation earn it a pass.

Auro is the kind of wine list that justifies the Four Seasons room rate all on its own — stratospheric in ceiling, surprisingly thoughtful in its range, and staffed by people who clearly know what they're looking at. The markups are real and the prices are not for the faint of wallet, but if you're going to drop serious money on wine anywhere in Napa Valley, this list at least earns the ask.
