Wingman Metrics
You're in Jackson, Mississippi, eating a French omelette in a cozy Belhaven bistro — and then you see Bodega Chacra Pinot Noir from Patagonia and amphora-aged Trebbiano from Abruzzo on the same list. The cognitive whiplash is real, and it's entirely welcome. This is not the wine list anyone expects to find here, and that's exactly the point.
About 95 labels deep, Elvie's leans hard into small-producer, natural-leaning wines from corners of the map most Mississippi restaurants wouldn't touch. The Italian section alone earns respect — Paitin's Serraboella Barbaresco, Nicolis Amarone, and Felsina's Chianti Classico Riserva sitting together is a serious statement. France shows up with purpose too: Domaine Jérôme Gradassi's Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge and not one but two grower Champagnes (Vincent Couche and Hervé Brisson) signal that whoever built this list has genuine taste. The New World gets attention via Matthiasson Napa Cab and the Eyrie Spark from Oregon, though the list skews decidedly Old World in spirit.
Twenty-one pours by the glass is an ambitious commitment for a neighborhood café, and Elvie's mostly pulls it off — ranging from $12 to $22, with enough variety to reward repeat visits. The sommelier on staff means the glass list isn't just a dump of whatever needs moving; there's actual curation happening here. We'd love to see more rotation flagged publicly, but the depth is already doing a lot of heavy lifting.
Francesco Cirelli 'Trebbiano d'Abruzzo Amphora' 2019 — $15 (glass est.)
Amphora-fermented Trebbiano from a biodynamic producer in Abruzzo — textured, alive, and genuinely interesting. This is the kind of wine that costs real money at a proper wine bar. At Elvie's, it's a Tuesday night pour in Jackson, Mississippi.
Bodega Chacra 'Cincuenta y Cinco' 2022
Most tables at Elvie's are going to order French or Italian. Don't sleep on this Patagonian Pinot from one of South America's most respected producers — it's silky, precise, and nothing like what people expect from Argentina.
Louis Jadot Beaujolais-Villages
At $18 a glass for a non-vintage Jadot Beaujolais-Villages you can find at any wine shop for $14 a bottle, this one doesn't hold up against the rest of the list. With Serraboella Barbaresco and Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the same room, there's no reason to settle here.
Hervé Brisson 'Les Aulnes' Champagne Extra Brut + Oysters
Grower Champagne and Gulf oysters is one of those combinations that's almost unfair in how well it works — the saline, mineral cut of this Extra Brut from Brisson mirrors the brine of the oyster without bullying it. Order both immediately.
🎲 The Bottom Line
Elvie's is the Wild Card badge in its purest form: a warm, unpretentious Belhaven café running a wine program that would turn heads in New Orleans or Atlanta. If you care about wine and you're anywhere near Jackson, you owe yourself a visit.
The District at Eastover · Jackson · Mexican
Sombra's wine list isn't going to win any awards, but the Wine Wednesday half-price promotion turns an ordinary Tuesday-level list into a legitimately fun Wednesday-night move. Come for the tacos, stay for the deal.

Shapley's is the best wine list in the Jackson metro area by a comfortable margin — 180 labels with genuine ambition, even if the markups lean toward the steakhouse standard of 'you're paying for the room.' If you're eating prime beef in Mississippi and you care about what's in your glass, this is where you come.

Table 100 is a reliable neighborhood spot that happens to have wine on the menu — the program is functional, the happy hour is genuinely good, and the Sunday half-price nights in December are worth planning around. Just don't come here hunting for anything you haven't seen before.
