Capo29 leans into its location without being lazy about it, pulling in serious Italian and French producers alongside the expected Napa heavyweights. This is not a list assembled by a distributor on autopilot.
The depth here is real: Burgundy from Domaine Leflaive, premier cru Chablis from Louis Jadot, Barolo from Ceretto, and local love via the Pestoni Family Sauvignon Blanc — all on the same list, all with purpose. Napa Valley anchors the California side while Tuscany and Piedmont clearly anchor the Italian chapter, which makes sense for an Italian kitchen doing osso buco and housemade pasta. The white list alone runs $28 to $57 on accessible bottles, suggesting the full list climbs into collector territory without abandoning the mid-range drinker. A local Napa producer at the entry price of the white list — this is the move if you want something fresh and Californian without paying tourist-trap markup. At $28, it's the easiest yes on the page.
2020 Domaine Leflaive 'Mâcon-Verzé'
Most people at this table are hunting the Napa Cabs or the Barolo, so Leflaive's Mâcon-Verzé gets overlooked. It's one of Burgundy's most respected names making a village-level Chardonnay that drinks way above its station — and it gets skipped precisely because it doesn't have a flashy region attached.
2022 Louis Jadot Chablis Fourchaume 1er Cru
Jadot makes perfectly fine wine, but Fourchaume is one of the most widely distributed premier cru Chablis on the market. In a list this deep, with Leflaive sitting right there, this feels like the safe pick for people who recognize a name — and restaurants know it, which means the margin here rarely favors the drinker.
2019 Ceretto Barolo + Osso buco
Barolo and braised veal shank is one of the most logical combinations in Italian cooking — Nebbiolo's tannin and acidity cut right through the richness of the marrow and the gremolata ties it all together. Ceretto makes a structured, age-worthy Barolo that earns its spot next to a long-cooked braise.
