You're sitting on a marina deck with a cold breeze and a decent sunset — the vibe absolutely delivers. Then you open the wine list and find six labels, all of which you've seen at a grocery store endcap. It's not offensive, it's just completely checked out.
Six bottles. That's the whole program. Josh Cellars holds down three slots on its own — Chardonnay, Cabernet, and Merlot — which tells you everything about the ambition level here. Meiomi Pinot Noir, Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc, and Seaglass round out the rest, all high-volume, low-effort national brands built for casual chain dining. There's no regional character, no nod to coastal whites that might actually make sense with the seafood menu, and zero curiosity. California and New Zealand represent the entire world here.
Every bottle is available by the glass, so at least you're not stuck buying a full pour of something you're unsure about. At an estimated $9–$13 per glass, you're paying casual-bar prices for grocery-tier wine, which lands somewhere between acceptable and mildly annoying depending on your mood. Don't expect rotation — this list looks like it hasn't moved in years.
Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc — $9
It's the most logical bottle on this list for a raw bar setting. Oyster Bay is consistent, clean, and has enough citrus and grassiness to stand up to oysters or fried seafood without embarrassing itself. It's still a grocery store wine, but at least it makes contextual sense.
Seaglass Pinot Noir
Nobody comes here ordering Pinot Noir, which is exactly why it might be your best move. It's light, easy-drinking, and handles the sushi rolls better than the Cabernet or Merlot ever would. Low expectations, decent execution.
Josh Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon
Josh Cab retails for around $13 a bottle. At an estimated $11–$13 a glass, you're paying full bottle price for a single pour of a wine that belongs at a backyard cookout, not a marina. Pass.
Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc + Ribs
Okay, it's not actually a pairing — but grab the Oyster Bay before your ribs arrive and drink it with the raw bar starters or sushi rolls first. The crisp acidity cuts through anything fried or briny on the table, and you'll have finished it by the time the heavy stuff shows up.
The Bottom Line
Boardwalk Billy's is a fun spot to eat and drink a cold beer on the water — lean into that. The wine list is an afterthought stocked with recognizable labels that require zero effort from anyone involved, and the markup doesn't justify the selection. Order a cocktail or a local draft and save the wine night for somewhere that cares.
