The wine list at Black Oak Grill is exactly ten bottles long — a number that feels less like a curated selection and more like someone grabbed what was on sale at the distributor. It reads like a greatest hits of approachable brand names: nothing offensive, nothing exciting, nothing that suggests anyone spent more than twenty minutes putting it together.
California and Mendoza split the entire list between them, which tells you the geographic ambition stops at the Rocky Mountains. Decoy shows up twice (Pinot Noir and Cabernet), Sonoma-Cutrer and J Lohr handle the Chardonnay duty, and Joel Gott fills in as the house Cab understudy. There's a Catena Vista Flores Malbec that at least gestures toward something interesting from Argentina, but one Mendoza outlier doesn't make a wine program. No Burgundy, no Rhône, no Riesling with any bite, no rosé worth discussing — the list has all the range of a hotel minibar.
Nine of the ten bottles are available by the glass, which sounds generous until you realize the list is only ten bottles. Glass pours run $7.50 to $14.50, and while that's not highway robbery in a vacuum, the markup math on bottles like the Sonoma-Cutrer ($51 here, roughly $20 retail) is doing some heavy lifting. There's no rotation, no seasonal additions — what you see is what you get, probably indefinitely.
J Lohr Estates Riverstone Chardonnay — $9/glass
It's the most honest pour on the list. J Lohr Riverstone is a reliable, food-friendly Chardonnay that doesn't pretend to be Burgundy, and at $9 a glass it won't make you wince when you're splitting apps at the Landing.
Catena Vista Flores Malbec
Buried at the bottom of a list that's otherwise wall-to-wall California, the Catena Vista Flores Malbec from Mendoza is actually the most interesting bottle here. Catena knows how to grow Malbec, and Vista Flores fruit tends to deliver concentration and freshness that the Decoys can't match at this price tier.
Sonoma-Cutrer Russian River Ranches Chardonnay
At $51 a bottle (roughly 2.5x retail), you're paying a premium for a label that's fine but deeply unremarkable for the price point. Save the $51 for a restaurant that actually earned the markup.
Catena Vista Flores Malbec + Prime Rib Sandwich
Malbec and beef is not a revelation, but it works for a reason — the fruit weight and soft tannins on the Catena play well against the richness of prime rib without steamrolling it. On a casual lunch at the Landing, this is the move.
❌ The Bottom Line
Black Oak Grill is a perfectly fine place to eat a burger and watch the Branson waterfront — just don't come here for the wine. With ten labels, steep markups, and zero evidence that the list has changed since the restaurant opened, the wine program is an afterthought at best.

Saltgrass Pointe Royale isn't a wine destination, but it's not an embarrassment either — fair prices, drinkable pours, and a list that serves its purpose alongside a good steak. Send a friend here for the food; just tell them to skip the Meiomi.

White River Fish House is not your wine destination in Branson, but it doesn't pretend to be — the list is safe, priced fairly, and sensible enough for what the kitchen is serving. Saltgrass is a reliable fallback when you're in Branson with a group that just wants steak and a glass of something familiar — nobody's going home disappointed, but nobody's going home talking about the wine either. If you care about what's in your glass, order the Riesling, skip the Chardonnay, and keep your expectations in check.
