Wingman Metrics
Walk into BJ's and the message is clear: this place is about the beer. The wine list feels like it was assembled by someone who had fifteen minutes and a Costco membership. It's not offensive, just aggressively unambitious.
The list reads like the wine aisle at a gas station with aspirations — Dark Horse, Apothic, Ménage à Trois, Ecco Domani. Every label here is a checkout-line familiar, and not a single one asks anything of the drinker. There's no regional curiosity, no small producer, nothing that would make a wine-curious person linger on the page. California value-brand dominance is total, with a nod to Italy via Ecco Domani that's more gesture than commitment. If you came here hoping to discover something, you won't.
Happy hour drops Dark Horse pours to $6 a glass, which is about the most exciting thing the glass program has going for it. Selection by the glass mirrors the bottle list — meaning it's short, predictable, and built entirely around brands you've seen on a grocery store end cap. No rotation, no surprises.
Apothic Red Winemaker's Blend NV — $10
At retail it runs $11, so BJ's is basically selling it at cost on the takeout promo. On a Tuesday with half-off bottles, you're paying $5 for a bottle of Apothic — which, sure, is exactly what it tastes like, but at that price it's hard to argue.
Hess Select Chardonnay NV
It retails for $13 and BJ's has it at $10 on the promo — a slight discount on arguably the most legitimate wine on the list. Hess Select punches above the rest of this lineup and is easy to overlook when your eyes jump straight to the Dark Horse labels.
Ménage à Trois Red Blend NV
It's the flashiest name on the list and the least interesting wine on it. Aggressively sweet, built for people who aren't sure they like wine yet. If that's your crowd, fine — but you can do marginally better right here on this same menu.
Dark Horse Cabernet Sauvignon NV + Deep-Dish Pizza
Dark Horse Cab is soft, fruit-forward, and low on tannin — it's not going to fight the cheese or the sauce, which is exactly what you want with a heavy deep-dish situation. This isn't a transcendent pairing, but it's the best this list can do, and honestly it works.
Tuesday — Half off all bottles of wine on Tuesdays, typically from 4–9 PM during dinner service. Chain-wide promotion — confirm hours with the Round Rock location.
The Bottom Line
BJ's is a brewpub, and the wine program knows it — it doesn't try very hard and doesn't need to. Show up on a Tuesday for half-off bottles if you must, but if wine is why you're going out tonight, go somewhere else.
The Domain · Round Rock · Steakhouse
Fleming's The Domain is a reliable, polished corporate wine program — the 43-glass pour options and some quietly interesting whites (Loosen Bros., Abadía de San Campio, Lucien Albrecht) give it more range than the steakhouse chain label implies. Markups run steep, especially on the sparkling side, so go in with eyes open and steer toward the underordered stuff. Send a friend here if they want a safe, well-executed wine experience with their ribeye — just don't expect any real surprises.

Tony C's Avery Ranch earns its place as a reliable neighborhood wine option with a thoughtful Italian core and fair pricing that won't make you regret ordering a bottle. It's not a wine destination, but it's genuinely better than it has to be, and that counts for something.

Round Rock · Round Rock · Italian
North Italia Round Rock doesn't break any new ground, but the Italian-leaning selection, fair bottle pricing, and massive by-the-glass count make it a reliable dinner option for anyone who wants a real wine alongside their pasta. Send your friends here — just steer them away from the Duckhorn.

Grey Orchard isn't trying to be a wine destination, but the list punches above its 18-label weight class — fair prices, smart glass pour access, and the RARA bottles keeping things interesting. If you're in Round Rock and want a thoughtful glass over dinner without a lot of drama, this works.

The wine list at Cheddar's Hot Springs exists because a restaurant has to have one, not because anyone gave it a second thought. Order a cocktail, enjoy the scratch kitchen, and save the wine conversation for somewhere else.

Boar's Head / Ivy Road · Charlottesville · Casual American
The Bistro at Boar's Head isn't a wine destination, but it doesn't embarrass itself either — especially for a resort list, the Virginia producer support is genuine and worth ordering. If you're on property, lean local and you'll leave satisfied.

This is a sports bar with a wine section, not a wine bar that happens to have sports. Order a beer, order a cocktail, order the boneless wings — just don't come here expecting anything from the wine list.
