Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Cheddar's San Marcos is exactly what you'd expect from a family chain off I-35 — a laminated insert tucked inside a menu that's mostly focused on getting you a Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit. There's no pretense here, which is fine, but there's also no effort, which is less fine. This is a beverage program designed to check a box, not to make you think.
Ten to twelve wines deep, the list reads like the bottom shelf of a grocery store wine aisle: Yellow Tail, Cupcake, Apothic, Ecco Domani, Cavit, Meiomi, and Bonanza by Caymus. California value brands dominate, with a token nod to Italian Pinot Grigio and an Australian wildcard in Yellow Tail. There are no surprises, no regional curiosities, no small producers — just the same brands you'd find at every casual chain from here to Tallahassee. The Bonanza Cab is the closest thing to a recognizable name worth mentioning, though it's still squarely in the approachable-crowd-pleaser tier.
Nearly the entire list is available by the glass, which is honestly the right call for a list like this — you shouldn't be committing to a bottle of Apothic Red at any price. Glass pours run $5.49–$7.99, and during the weekday happy hour window (4:30–7:30 PM), house wine drops to $4.00. That's the only reason to think about wine here at all.
Bonanza by Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon — $7.99
It's the only wine on this list with any actual pedigree behind the label — Caymus's value-tier Cab delivers more structure and fruit than anything else here. At under $8 a glass, it's the most defensible order on the menu.
Cavit Pinot Grigio
Nobody comes to Cheddar's for Italian wine, but Cavit is a consistently clean, crisp Pinot Grigio from Trentino that punches above its price point. It's easy to overlook next to Ecco Domani, but it's the better pour.
Apothic Red
A hyper-sweet, over-oaked California red blend that retails for $8 at Walgreens. At restaurant glass pricing — even discounted — you're paying a markup on a wine that flatters no one and goes with nothing on this menu in any meaningful way.
Meiomi Pinot Noir + Top Sirloin Steak & Chicken Tenders
Meiomi is soft, fruit-forward, and low on tannin — exactly what you want against a combination plate that swings between lean steak and fried chicken. It won't fight the food, and on this list, not fighting the food is a win.
Monday–Friday — Happy hour pricing runs 4:30 PM–7:30 PM weekdays. House wine reported at approximately $4.00/glass during this window — roughly half the standard glass price. No verified restaurant-specific wine night promotion beyond this.
❌ The Bottom Line
This is a wine list that exists because restaurants are expected to have one — full stop. If you're eating at Cheddar's and it's before 7:30 PM on a weekday, grab a $4 glass of whatever during happy hour and call it a day; otherwise, order a beer.

Come to Taqueria El Mexicano for the tacos — they're the whole point. The wine list is an afterthought, and that's fine, just don't make it the reason you show up.

Mamacita's is a perfectly decent Tex-Mex spot and the margaritas probably earn their own review — but the wine list is an afterthought and should be treated as one. Come for the fajitas and frozen drinks; leave the wine enthusiasm at home.

We wouldn't send a friend here for wine under any circumstances — this list exists to check a box, not to enhance your meal. Order a cocktail, drink a beer, and save the wine for somewhere that gives a damn.

BJ's is a perfectly fine place to drink craft beer — and we mean that sincerely. But the wine list is a placeholder, not a program, and the Ruffino Prosecco markup alone tells you everything you need to know about how seriously this kitchen takes the category. Come for the Pizookie, come for the beer, leave the wine glass empty.
