Walking into 22 Bowen's with a harbor view and a 200-plus bottle list feels like a promise. The room earns it aesthetically — white tablecloths, waterfront windows, the kind of place where ordering wine feels appropriate at lunch. The list leans heavily into the kind of Napa Valley prestige that matches the setting, for better and for worse.
The list is built around California and Oregon, with Napa Valley doing most of the heavy lifting. Staglin Family Vineyard gets real estate here — both the Estate Chardonnay and the 'Salus' Cabernet Sauvignon appear, plus the flagship Estate Cab — which tells you this place takes its California programs seriously enough to host winemaker dinners. Continuum Estate, Tim Mondavi's Napa proprietary blend, shows up too, which is a legitimately exciting bottle in the right context. The Oregon nod comes via St. Innocent Winery, a solid Willamette producer that keeps the list from being a pure Napa shrine, but don't expect a deep European or Southern Hemisphere bench here.
With an estimated 20-30 by-the-glass options for a waterfront steakhouse, the program sounds ambitious on paper. We'd expect the usual suspects — Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Cabernet — but whether any of the marquee Staglin or Continuum bottles make the pour list is unclear from what's published. At a restaurant at this price point, the glass pours should be doing more work to justify the bill.

The 'Salus' label is Staglin's organically farmed tier — serious Napa Cab at a slightly more accessible price than the Estate flagship. If the markup is reasonable relative to retail, this is your move for a big red that earns its place at the table without going full trophy-bottle.
St. Innocent Winery
Most people at a Newport steakhouse are scanning for Napa, so St. Innocent often gets bypassed entirely. This Willamette Valley producer makes restrained, terroir-driven Pinot Noir that's a genuinely better match for the local seafood than any Cabernet on the list — and it's probably the quietest bottle in the room.
Continuum Estate Proprietary Blend
Continuum is a legitimately great wine, but at a waterfront tourist-adjacent restaurant in Newport, the markup on a prestige Napa blend like this will be punishing. Retail runs north of $200; expect to pay considerably more here. Save it for a night when someone else is buying or buy it direct from the winery.
St. Innocent Winery Pinot Noir + Raw Bar Selections
This is the contrarian call that actually works. A cool-climate Willamette Pinot alongside oysters and fresh local shellfish bridges the gap between what the kitchen does best and what the wine list has to offer beyond white wine. The acidity cuts through, the fruit doesn't overwhelm — it's the pairing the menu needs someone to suggest.
