Forty-seven labels at a tapas and pizza bar in Niagara Falls — that's more than most places bother with, and the price ceiling of $96 keeps things grounded. This is a list built for regular people who want options, not a sommelier flexing their rare Burgundy stash. The $9–$12 glass range is one of the more honest by-the-glass programs you'll find in the region.
The list leans heavily red and plays it safe — think Malbec, Cabernet, Chianti, Rioja — all familiar names that won't confuse the table but won't surprise anyone either. There's a nod to Italy with the Barba Vasari Montepulciano, Banfi Chianti Superiore, and Bolla Valpolicella, plus a Bordeaux in the Chateau de l'Orangerie that adds a touch of old-world credibility. The Chat de Jarnoux Beaujolais is the list's most interesting detour — Beaujolais doesn't show up often in American casual wine programs and it's worth noting. Whites, sparkling, and sweets round things out but don't appear to be where the kitchen's passion lives.
Forty-one of forty-seven labels are available by the glass — that's essentially the entire list, which is genuinely impressive and exactly what a tapas format demands. At $9–$12 a pour, you can graze across regions the same way you graze across small plates. The range and price point make this one of the better by-the-glass setups in the area.
Souverain Pinot Noir — $34
The lowest bottle price on the list for a Pinot Noir, and Souverain consistently punches above its weight for California Pinot at this tier. Good enough to order a bottle and not feel the pinch.
Chat de Jarnoux Beaujolais
Most people at a pizza and tapas joint are defaulting to Cab or Malbec — don't. The Beaujolais is the most food-flexible red on this list, lighter-bodied and bright enough to handle a spread of small plates without overwhelming anything.
Canyon Rd Cabernet Sauvignon
Canyon Road is a grocery store staple that retails for under $10. Even at $34 a bottle it feels like a filler pick — there are better Cabs on this list at the same or close price.
Honoro Vera Tempranillo Rioja + Charcuterie or cured meat tapas
Tempranillo and cured Spanish-style meats are a classic combo for a reason — the earthy, red-fruited structure of the Honoro Vera cuts through fat and salt without fighting the flavors. At $38 a bottle it's the kind of easy call that makes a tapas spread sing.
The Bottom Line
Wine on Third is a genuinely solid neighborhood wine bar doing a lot of things right for the price — 41 by-the-glass options at $9–$12 is hard to argue with. Don't come looking for discovery; come looking for a good pour with your small plates and you'll leave happy.
